Run. That's the first thought I had. The burning sparks.. they hurt. They hurt a lot. I watched the house go up in flames. Guards and women and children stabbed. Bleeding to death. The pitiful looks on their faces, as their glossy eyes stared up at the sky. I felt my heart wrench.
The wave of emotions scared me. But I was far more afraid of what would happen if I stopped running. That's all I could do. I could hear swords clash, screams, growls, cries of children, and blood spilling. The bells ringing. Warning bells. Flashes of qi everywhere.
I didn't know. What was going on? Where was he? My parents.. were they dead? My sisters? My friends? I felt the tremors in my hands resurface. It was too much. Too much for me to bear. But I had to keep running. And I ran. Ran till the bright flames and dark smoke were just dots on the horizon. Ran till I felt my legs give out. Ran till cold tears on my face dried and returned for the umpteenth time. And that's when I realized I had nowhere to run to.
I had lost everything. Everything but myself. I felt blank as the loneliness and grief crept over my heart. What was I doing? More importantly, what do I do now? I looked back to the cinders of where I ran from. The smoke still rose in plumes, darker than the sky. The house seemed engulfed in the unyielding flames, as I saw it all burn down. Nothing. Nothing would remain.
Then there was a flash of light. A rippling shock threw me to the ground. I instinctively covered my ears, the pressure stronger than what I had ever experienced. And then.. there was nothing.
The flames stopped. The light disappeared in an instant. I could only hear a ringing in my ears, as I removed my hands. The sticky blood on them was colorless for a few seconds. It took a few moments for them to see the red.Well. The ringing seemed to fade. I stared at where the flames had been. Far away. But they were gone. There was no sound either. The screams, the cries had stopped. Which could only mean two things. I feared I knew which one.
