Aiden tried. Running away from the nightmares. Her screams. The pain he couldn't take away from her. But he was helpless. And that feeling of helplessness was awful.
For 4 years, Aiden couldn't stop his thoughts. The what ifs. The if I was betters.
But he tried dam hard. For his son. His new love. The reason he kept going. The reason for his joy. Cause it was true. Aarav Acharya was one of the best things that happened to him.
But a question always haunted Aiden. A question he didn't have an answer for. Would he have chosen Aarav or Aru? He didn't know. And that didn't make it any better.
But Aiden tried finding his peace. He mostly reached it, he supposed. He was sure that he couldn't get in a better place than he was in now.
"Aarav!" Aiden screamed, hoping it reached upstairs. "We're late!"
"Coming, papa!" Aarav said back, coming down the stairs, jumping on each step, taking longer than necessary. But Aiden didn't mind. Aiden smiled fondly at Aarav's antics.
Aiden went to the locked the door and went to the car where Aarav was trying to climb the car's hood but stopped immediately upon seeing his dad. Aarav tossed Aiden a sheepish smile.
Aiden grinned back before lifting a giggling Aarav into the air and swings him around before opening the backseat car-door and placing Aarav gently down.
Whistling, Aiden went to the driver's seat and started the engine.
Aarav chattered about his new friends in the private school Aiden placed Aarav in. Aiden listened patiently, his son's voice being the most lovely sound to Aiden.
Aiden pulls up to Aarav's new school, releasing a breath of relief when he realized that students are still coming and they weren't the last ones there.
"Come on, bud." Aiden says, lifting Aarav down from the car even though Aarav is perfectly capable of getting down by himself. Aiden found joy in these little things.
"I'll pick you up so just wait for me, okay?" Aiden said and Aarav nodded, grinning.
"Bye, papa!!" Aarav said before squealing and running into the school.
Aiden made sure Aarav knew where to go since he took Aarav to see the principal on the weekend and made sure Aarav knew the directions so he wouldn't worry now.
Aiden watched Aarav's silhouette disappear completely before leaving.
With a small smile, Aiden got into his Mercedes and checked his phone to find 27 missed calls from his managers.
With a sigh, he called his manager who picked up in the first call.
"Aiden! Are you okay?" Oliver, the manager says. Oliver is sweet, and takes in the best of everyone. He's a few years younger than Aiden but is dam good in his job.
"It's Aarav's first day to-"
"His new school, oh my gods!" Oliver squeals. Oliver was sunshine if sunshine was a person. Aiden felt Oliver and Aarav were so alike. Aiden liked that fact.
"Yep. Anyways, what's up?" Aiden asked.
"Right! I have the best news ever! I got you the main lead in the new film thats coming up by the director who got her first three movies a hit! This is the fourth! It's a murder mystery and-"
Aiden chuckles. "Got it, Ol. Send me the details. I'll take it as long as-"
"It doesn't clash with Aarav's schedule for you. Done!" Oliver said and Aiden could practically hear the grin on Oliver's face.
"You already told them about-"
"Yep." Oliver cuts off Aiden as Aiden sighs.
"Okay then. When are we gonna meet?" Aiden asks.
"Tomorrow."
"Oliver, you gave me so much time to think this through." Aiden says, sarcastically while starting his car, heading back to his mansion, though Aiden feels like it's just home.
"Sorryyyyy, see you tomorrow!!" Oliver laughs and hangs up.
Sighing, Aiden plays his playlist while driving home. As he reached home, he went to Instagram to check for general updates. It was all the same. Aiden Acharya's new song is in the top 100 currently. Aiden Acharya and his son photographed at Target. Rudra Acharya releases a new album - predicted to win a Grammy. Yada, yada. Political issues. Bankruptcy. A company destroyed. Yada, yada.
That's when Aiden noticed Mini posted something. Mini never posts. Aiden avoided her account cause Mini refused to remove the stories which included Aru and looking at them, always made things worse.
But in an impulsive moment, Aiden clicked her account.
He couldn't breathe. His lungs refused to work. His heart stopped beating before going twice as fast and Aiden started breathing heavier than he ever panted before.
No. NO. No, no, no, please, gods no. Aiden couldn't take this.
He can't-
Aiden dropped his phone as he froze while almost locking the door to his house. He froze.
The phone fell to the ground but didn't break.
If anyone picks it up, they'd see a picture of Yamini Mercado Kapoor-Lopez and Arundhati Shah, taken 5 years, 2 months and 11 days after her disappearance. After her death.
