Wang Yibo couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that followed him for the rest of the day. Xiao Zhan’s words echoed in his mind—Some things are better left undiscovered. It was almost as if the CEO had been hinting at something. But that wasn’t possible, right? There was no way Xiao Zhan could know about the contract he’d placed with the Sean Mafia.
The thought made Yibo’s stomach churn. He had taken such a drastic step in his anger, and now, all he could do was wait for the consequences to unfold.
By the time Yibo left the office, it was dark outside. He had stayed late, finishing up the report Xiao Zhan had demanded. The city streets were mostly empty, and a cold breeze swept through as Yibo made his way toward his apartment. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions—regret, anxiety, but also a strange anticipation.
Halfway down the block, his phone buzzed. It was a message from the number he had called the night before—the Sean Mafia.
Unknown: The contract is in motion. Results will follow.
Yibo stared at the message, his heart pounding. It was happening. The mafia had accepted the contract, and now Xiao Zhan was a target. Part of him wanted to cancel it, to call them back and undo everything he had set into motion. But another part of him—the part still angry and hurt—stayed silent. Xiao Zhan deserved this, didn’t he? After all the years of coldness and harsh treatment, didn’t he deserve a taste of his own medicine?
Yibo pocketed his phone, shoving those thoughts aside as he made his way home.

At Sean Mafia Headquarters
Xiao Zhan, now in full Sean mode, sat in the dimly lit room where he conducted his mafia business. The air was thick with tension as Liu Zhen and Chen Li, his trusted hitman, stood before him, waiting for his instructions. Xiao Zhan’s face was unreadable, but his mind was working at lightning speed.
“So,” Liu Zhen began, breaking the silence, “how do you want to handle this? We can stage the attack and make it look convincing. That’s what the client expects.”
Xiao Zhan’s lips curled into a thin smile. “No,” he said, his voice sharp. “I’ll deal with it myself. This… situation… has become far more personal than you realize.”
Chen Li raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. “Boss, it’s just another contract. You don’t need to get involved.”
Xiao Zhan’s gaze flickered with something dangerous. “You don’t understand. The person who placed this contract doesn’t realize who I really am. This isn’t about money or business anymore. It’s a test.”
Liu Zhen exchanged a look with Chen Li but nodded. He had worked with Xiao Zhan long enough to know when to back off. “So, what’s the plan?”
Xiao Zhan leaned back in his chair, his mind already forming a strategy. “We’ll let Wang Yibo think the plan is in motion. Let him believe he’s in control for now. But I want to see how far he’s willing to take this. I’ll be watching him closely.”

The Next Day
Yibo arrived at the office the next morning, his nerves even more frayed than the day before. Every time he walked past Xiao Zhan’s office, he felt a sense of dread creeping up on him. What if today was the day the mafia struck? What if he was in the office when it happened?
He busied himself with mundane tasks, trying to distract himself from the growing anxiety. But just before lunch, his phone buzzed again. He glanced at the screen.
Unknown: Stay alert. Your target will face consequences today.
Yibo’s pulse quickened. Today. It was happening.
