The next morning, she woke up and made her bed. She prepared herself some breakfast, ate and got ready for work. Once she was finished, she got in her car and road to work.
After Tara finished college she became a nurse. It was a therapeutic job for her. Helping people was always something she was passionate about. It made her happy to make others feel better. Tara only worked 4 days a week for 12 hours at Madison Health Care Center. She'd grown to care a lot about her patients. She treated them as if they were her family.
Moments later she arrives to the hospital and everyone immediately greets her happily. "Good Morning Tara, the patient in room 17 missed you." One of the nurses said with enthusiasm.
"I'll go see him in a second" she replied cheekily. Tara clocked in for her shift and headed to room 17 to greet Mr. Wilson. He was a grumpy old man who only did what Tara said. He gave all the other nurses hell but for some reason he only listened to her.
She entered the and he immediately greeted her, "Good morning beautiful." She chuckled. "Mr. Wilson. How are you feeling today?"
He sat up in the hospital bed so she could get his morning vitals. While she did that he responded to her question, "I'm doing well Tara. A little weakness in my left leg but other than that I'm fine.
She was sure he was in pain but didn't want to pry. "Okay Mr. Wilson. I'm going to get the physical therapist to come and check on you, okay?"
He looked with a disappointed face. He hated anyone coming in his room who wasn't her or dietary. He reluctantly shook his head.
Tara spent the rest of the day tending to her patients happily. She made sure everyone was doing and feeling well. Eventually the end of the day came and it was time to leave. She said her goodbyes to her coworkers and headed out.
She remembered that her best friend, Emma, wanted to meet up for some drinks. She headed there before she went home.
"How was work today?" Emma asked Tara with a caring tone. Genuinely wanting to know if today was a good day for her. She knew Tara loved being a nurse.
"Today was great. Mr. Wilson kept flirting with me all day." She laughed slightly. Emma laughed as well, "That dirty old man. Is he still pretending he's not in pain?"
Tara continued laughing, "Of course he is. And i still sent the PT in to check on him. But enough about me, how are you?"
"I'm doing well. I've decided to take a class in Business Administration!" She exclaimed excitedly.
Tara and Emma grew up in different households. Tara lives a normal mediocre life and Emma was rich. Like rich rich. Emma has had everything her whole life and was completely spoiled but she never act like it. They were completely different. Emma always had boys chasing her. Even when they were younger. But she was also a loner. Guys only ever wanted one thing and girls hated that all the boys loved Emma.
On the other hand, Tara only cared about her studies. She didn't have time for boys or trying to become friends with anyone. She had goals that she wanted to stick to.
"What are you doing for the rest of the night?" She said curiously.
She took a deep breath, "Well... umm... I'm moving in with a man." She said nervously.
That made Emma almost choke on her drink, "YOU'RE WHAT??" She yelled without realizing it.
"Are you okay?" Tara said while patting Emma in the back.
Once she caught her breath, Emma continued, "Yours moving in with a man? Do you even know him? I'm not trying to judge but what the hell are you thinking?" You could tell she was concerned for her friend. Tara would never do something like that and Tara knew it. That's why this whole thing was a shock.
"You really need to calm down before you choke again."
"I can't calm down. You're so damn innocent. How did you get wrapped up in this Tara?" She was so worried. Emma didn't know anything about this man. She had to try and talk her friend out of it before she got hurt.
"There's no need to worry Emma. I promise I'll be okay." She said with confidence. And weirdly enough she actually was confident she'd be alright. For whatever reason, she knew he would never hurt her.
"This is unbelievable. Who is he????" She said with a worried look in her eye.
"His name is Vincent." She said feeling a little put down. Tara knew that Emma was just looking out for her, but she is a grown woman who didn't need a babysitter. "Look Emma, i know this is a bit of a shock, but you're my friend and i need support. Not a lecture."
Emma simmered down a little, and the worry in her eyes was replaced with compassion. "I'm sorry Tara. I was just worried that's all. If you feel like you can handle moving in with this man, then i support you. But please be careful, i don't want you to get hurt."
Tara took Emma's hand in hers and looked her directly in the eye with gratitude, "I know Tara and i will be careful."
