What if they miss each other despite the break in their partnership?
From Perth:
Hi P'Mon! Are you at home? Can I see you?
Chimon looked down to the screen with the new notification. He wanted to immediately respond, but he hesitated. His finger hovered over it for one second, two, three. And then he refused himself, deciding to wait. Sitting back in his lawn chair, he looked out at his backyard from under the small canopy that blocked the sun. Red and yellow flowers lined the wall on the opposite side with a few glittering butterflies.
Sighing, Chimon put his phone down, turning it off and trying to relax, he thought about the message. It was Perth. He's excited. But should he be? He doesn't want to seem desperate or lonely or...anything. He doesn't exactly know, but he'll wait a few more minutes just to be safe. It's not like Perth is dangerous, and it's just a message. Maybe he shouldn't be excited.
His excitement for Perth's attention came in waves. That's the way it became over the past year.
The ebbs and flows made him more anxious. He was excited to hear from Perth, but the feeling also reminded him of their distance. The vast space between them was both physical and mental. It was longer than any measuring tape could travel. They held on and let go and reconnected and fell apart already. Now, does Perth wish to put them back together?
The attention WAS nice. It was nice and beautiful and warm and almost unbreakable—almost. Chimon let his phone sit and he relaxed as the small fan blew air onto his face, across his cheeks. He just sat and thought and thought some more.
Is it better to unite and fall back into the spotlight, Perth's spotlight, again? Or should he let them continue to break apart and crumble away from each other?
He didn't know, but when he felt his vision blue and his eyes sting, he felt even more confused. He misses Perth. And he thinks Perth misses him too.
