Long ago, predators and prey coexisted in harmony. Together, they built Bushville, a thriving city founded on mutual trust. Predators swore never to harm prey, and for a time, peace flourished. The city prospered, and its inhabitants lived without fear.

But the peace was short-lived. Predators began breaking their vows, attacking prey in secret. Friends and neighbors vanished without explanation, leaving behind whispers of suspicion. Investigations revealed the devastating truth—predators had betrayed their oath.

At first, authorities arrested the few predators caught in the act. But as attacks escalated and fear spread like wildfire, the government resorted to drastic measures. They exiled all predators and erected a towering wall around the city, ensuring no predator could ever return.

Since then, Bushville's prey have lived a secluded life, free from the threat of predators—or so they believed. Remnants of the predators’ past linger in the city: books by predator authors, toys, clothing, and other artifacts scattered in abandoned places. Possession of these items is strictly forbidden, but Wendy had her ways of acquiring them.

“I don’t like this, Wendy,” Amy squeaked, trembling as she watched her roommate crawl through a gap in the old city fence.

“Relax, Amy,” Wendy replied casually. “This won’t take long, and then we’ll head home.”

Amy clutched the flashlight tightly, her eyes darting nervously for signs of patrolling officers. “I don’t care how long it takes! You know how much I hate being out here—especially near the wall!” With a reluctant groan, she squeezed through the opening to follow Wendy. “If we get caught, I swear you’ll never hear the end of it.”

Wendy ignored her roommate’s protests, slipping into an abandoned house. Her flashlight beam cut through the shadows as she rummaged through piles of forgotten belongings. Amy lingered by the entrance, shivering at the sight of the vandalized walls and the eerie silence.

“Aha!” Wendy’s triumphant shout echoed through the house, startling Amy, who nearly dropped the flashlight.

“Wendy!” Amy hissed, her voice low and sharp. “Keep it down! Do you want us to get caught?”

Wendy chuckled, pulling out a dusty box. She shined her flashlight on it, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Look what I found! A complete set of Inspector Fox!”

“Great, now let’s go!” Amy urged, her tone growing more desperate.

“Not yet!” Wendy chirped, bounding over heaps of junk toward a staircase.

Amy’s frustration boiled over. “What do you mean, ‘not yet?’ We don’t have time for this!” But her protests were in vain—Wendy had already disappeared upstairs. Muttering angrily, Amy followed. “If we get caught, you’re not hearing the end of it, I swear…”

Upstairs, Wendy marveled at faded posters of a rock band featuring a wolf as the lead singer. Across the hall, a telescope caught her eye, its lens gleaming through a broken window. With a delighted squeal, she lunged into the room, landing on an old mattress.

“Wendy, we need to go!” Amy’s voice trembled with urgency as she found her roommate staring into the telescope.

“Just a second,” Wendy replied, her voice distant as she adjusted the scope.

“Wendy! If you want a telescope, we can buy one! That thing’s ancient and disgusting!”

“That wouldn’t be any fun,” Wendy said with a smirk, peering through the lens.

“It won’t be fun if the police catch us either!”

Before Amy could continue her tirade, Wendy suddenly gasped. Amy’s ears shot up, her grip tightening on the flashlight. “What? What is it?”

Wendy didn’t answer, her eye glued to the telescope. She saw something—a rope being tossed over the wall. Her pulse quickened as a shadowy figure began descending the rope. It was fast, deliberate. The figure landed behind a pile of rusted cars before darting into an abandoned building.

“What is it, Wendy?” Amy pressed, her voice edged with panic.

“I... I think it’s a predator,” Wendy whispered, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and excitement.

Amy froze. “A predator?” she repeated, her voice barely audible.

“Yes! I saw it climb the wall,” Wendy said, her tone breathless with awe.

Amy’s panic surged. “Wendy, do you know what this means?”

“Yes!” Wendy exclaimed, a dreamy smile spreading across her face. “It means I might’ve just found my perfect mate!”

“No, you horny rabbit!” Amy snapped. “It means we’re in danger!”

Wendy’s smile faltered as Amy’s words sank in. “Danger?”

“Yes, danger! What you saw could mean they’re planning something—an attack, maybe. We need to tell the authorities!” Amy’s voice was sharp with urgency.

Wendy’s ears drooped, guilt washing over her as she realized she’d made a mistake in sharing her discovery.
