The frosty air sobered me up as soon as I left the apartment. I didn't know where I was going to go but I couldn't stay there. The trail kept going and going with no real end in sight. Somehow I ended up at the park in front of the same water fountain. I looked at the wishes in its now dark water. I wondered if any had come true. Near the water fountain was a lone penny on the ground. Tails up I thought cynically it must be a lucky penny. Couldn't hurt, I huffed and closed my eyes before tossing the copper coin into the water fountain.
I wish I could go back and put the effort into my life. I don't want to be average.
That's it...
Nothing changed of course it wouldn't gosh I must be delusional.
Almost to throw salt in the wound I could hear rustling coming, a jogger running by in the park. They came to the clearing and my eyes almost fell out their head. It was Chance Myers.

He probably didn't even recognize me I can't help but hide my disappointment by staring into the fountains pools.
"Jane"?
I turned to face him
"Jane Fleming is that you, wow it's been years"!
I smile shyly at him. He's just as handsome as he was in high school still fit and successful. After high-school he went to a good college on scholarship and he's now a cardiovascular surgeon. How do I know this? I stalked him on social media of course.
"Wow Chance it's been too long, you look great"
He really does. He's always been handsome with spiked black hair and those dreamy dark eyes. His smile could instantly boost your moral, although right now all it did was remind me how inferior I am in comparison.
"You don't look bad yourself. What have you been up to. I haven't seen you since graduation"!
I blush
"Oh well you know I've been here and there".
I take one step back
"Cool like traveling I did some myself I recent did a stint in Zimbabwe with Doctors Without Borders. It was great".
"Oh nothing like that just.."
Another step back
"Hey why don't we catch up with coffee sometime. It really is good to see you Jane"
He reached me for a hug right as I take another step back.
The fountain comes in the way of my back heel and suddenly I'm falling, Chance not long behind. Before I can feel the cold splash of the water I blank.
