Chapter four. Pay "All you make me do"
The Sullys were a caring family. That much you knew. But they were everything that they had thought you to go against. Because the feelings that they held for one another, the love that pumped through their brains, it all made them far too reckless. It made them take incredible risks. It made them act without thinking.
Something that a T'herkaya couldn't do. Not when all the tribes around Pandora thought of them as the worsts assassins. (So much for cleaning your tribe name.) Not when you had grown all your life with the idea that alone meant survival and together meant certain death.
But Neteyam, there was something about him that made you want something far too similiar to all of that for your liking. It made you think about begging Eywa over and over for something even remotely close to what they had. Even though you knew that it would have been pointless. You were not deserving of it. Blood stained hands could never held onto one's heart without staining it.
And you were sure that your 'Teyam had a white soul covered with red handprints. Yours.
"Thank you" spoke Jake as he looked into your eyes, tightly hugging his children.
A nod was all you gave back in answer, eyes scanning the family in front of you. Meeting their frightened expressions, their worried glances, the trembling hands — Yours were steady.
You turned to stare into the depths of the forest. The darkness called your name, telling you to go back to your real home. Where you actually belonged. Where you could rip hearts out without feeling the weight of guilt pushing down over your chest. Without being the odd one. Without having to take pointless risks.
Your leg twitched. It was about to move on its own.
An hand on your shoulder brought you back. Yellow eyes staring into purple ones once again. Neteyam. How could you go back when you had gotten a taste of him? When nothing had made you feel as alive as him. What was dying if you had him by your side? A risk that you would have took without doubt.
He looked up and down your body a couple of times. Making sure that you weren't hiding any injuries from him. It wouldn't have been the first time. Always so reckless, always ready to jump in front of him. Oh, how he saw you. He saw your feelings, he saw your thoughts, he saw your doubts, he saw something more.
You tilted your head away, reluctantly. You didn't want to let him see that far into you right now. His hand fell down from your shoulder to your forearm, where he gave you a light squeeze.
"Where's Spider?" Lo'ak questioned out loud, then waiting for a clear answer.
It made both of you notice the absence of the human boy. Neteyam sucked in a breath, worried. He didn't want to think of the worst, not when Tuk had such a sad look on her face.
