The stars above the mortal realm twinkled faintly, oblivious to the brewing storm. Far away in the celestial plane, Lady Anastasia and Lady Troissa sat in the Hall of Light, their faces etched with worry. Between them stood Ignetas, a loyal immortal who had been quietly watching over Risha and Miri.
"They are in grave danger," Ignetas said, his deep voice steady but urgent. "Eron is relentless, and his plans are unfolding faster than we anticipated. He's using their emotions against them."
Lady Anastasia's fingers tightened around the edges of her chair. "How dare he? To think he still holds this grudge after all these centuries."
Troissa nodded, her gaze sharp. "He seeks to destroy their chances and keep them bound to mortality forever. If he succeeds, they will never return to the celestial plane. We cannot allow this."
Ignetas stepped forward. "I suggest sending a guardian—someone who can intervene without violating the sacred laws. They must not directly reveal the truth to Risha or Miri, but they can offer protection and guidance."
Anastasia exchanged a glance with her sister. "Who do you have in mind?"
Ignetas hesitated before speaking. "Ursula. She's skilled in blending with the mortal realm and has the wisdom to counter Eron's schemes."
Troissa's lips pressed into a thin line. "Then it is decided. Ursula will go."
In the mortal realm, Eron sat at a dimly lit table in a rundown café, a sly grin curling his lips. Across the room, Neil, Miri's love interest, sat alone, his usually carefree expression clouded with confusion. Eron's voice slithered into Neil's mind, invisible to those around him.
"She's hiding something," Eron whispered, his tone laced with malice.
Neil's head shot up, startled. "Who's talking?" he muttered, glancing around.
"Not just something—everything," the voice persisted. "Miri's keeping secrets from you. Haven't you ever wondered why she's so... guarded?"
Neil frowned, trying to shake the thoughts away. "She's not guarded," he said aloud. "She's just focused."
Eron's chuckle echoed in Neil's mind, sinister and mocking. "Focused? Or distracted? Think about it. Why does she keep disappearing when things get serious? She's hiding a life you'll never be part of."
Neil's expression darkened as doubt began to creep in. His mind churned with questions he couldn't ignore.
Eron even started to whisper to Ashan from far away. As a powerful immortal, he was able to do that easily.
"Why shouldn't it be you, Ashan?" Eron's voice purred in his thoughts. "You've been there for her, haven't you? Sol's nothing compared to you. But if you wait too long, she'll slip away."
Ashan clenched his fists, frustration bubbling within him. "Wait, what is happening?"
That evening, as Risha and Miri walked home together, a faint shimmer appeared in the sky above them. Neither noticed it, but the shimmering grew into a figure cloaked in celestial light. Ursula, the guardian chosen by Lady Anastasia and Lady Troissa, descended quietly into the mortal realm.
By the time Ursula's feet touched the ground, her form had shifted, her celestial glow replaced with the sharp features of a corporate leader. She adjusted her tailored blazer, her piercing eyes scanning her new surroundings.
"This world is as chaotic as ever," she muttered, pulling out a sleek tablet to review the information Ignetas had provided. Risha and Miri's photos appeared on the screen, along with details about their mission and the humans they had yet to help.
"Let's see how Eron likes a fair fight," Ursula said with a smirk, tucking the tablet away.
The next morning, the office buzzed with excitement and whispers.
"Did you hear?" one coworker said. "We have a new head of operations."
Risha and Miri exchanged surprised glances as they walked into the breakroom. "Another one?" Miri said. "That's, like, the third this year."
"Maybe this one will actually last," Risha replied, pouring herself a cup of coffee.
Their conversation was interrupted by a commanding voice. "Good morning, everyone."
They turned to see a tall woman with striking features and an air of authority enter the room. She smiled, but her gaze was sharp, taking in every detail of her new team.
"I'm Ursula," she said, her tone firm but not unkind. "I'll be heading operations from today. I look forward to working with all of you."
As Ursula's eyes briefly met Risha's and Miri's, a flicker of recognition passed through her gaze, though she quickly masked it.
Risha nudged Miri. "She seems... intense."
"Definitely not here to make friends, also kinda familiar, don't ya think?" Miri whispered back.
Risha couldn't answer.
Unbeknownst to them, Ursula's presence marked the beginning of a new chapter in their journey—one that would test their resilience and determination like never before.
In the shadows, Eron watched through his enchanted orb, his grin faltering slightly. "A guardian?" he murmured, recognizing Ursula instantly. His eyes narrowed. "You've made your move, Anastasia and Troissa. Let's see how far your little protector can go."
