The soft glow of the setting sun bathed the room in a warm, golden light. Risha sat on the edge of the bed, her eyes still heavy from the sleep she had just awoken from, her body recovering slowly. But there was something else weighing on her—a deep curiosity about everything that had transpired while she was unconscious.
Miri had been so silent when she returned. She was gentle, tender, but there was something different in her eyes—a strength, a kind of wisdom that Risha hadn't seen before. Risha knew Miri had been through something extraordinary, something that had changed her. But there was so much Risha didn't know. What had happened to Miri? What had she faced? And what had Miri sacrificed to bring her back?
Risha reached for the locket, her fingers brushing against it, realizing with a jolt that it still hung around her neck, a silent reminder of the bond she shared with Miri. The little trinket that had become a symbol of their connection. Her fingers wrapped around it, and in that moment, the familiar warmth and magic pulsed through her. It was then that she remembered something important—Miri had left the locket with her, a simple oversight, but one that led Risha to understand what she needed to do.
"Mitzy..." she whispered.
She had heard of the fairy before, from Miri, of course. She had always wondered about the little creature who seemed so tied to Miri's fate, and now, in this moment of uncertainty, it was time to call upon her. Risha closed her eyes, holding the locket tightly in her palm, and whispered once more.
"Mitzy, please... come to me."
A soft shimmer of light filled the room. Risha looked up to find Mitzy, the tiny fairy, hovering before her with a playful grin on her face.
"I knew you'd need me eventually, princess," Mitzy said, twirling in the air. "Oh it's you, Risha! I thought Miri. Okay, sugar, what's the problem, huh? You look a little lost."
Risha blinked in surprise, not expecting the fairy to appear so quickly. "Mitzy... I have so many questions. Miri... what happened to her? What did she do? What's going on?"
Mitzy's smile softened, her wings stilling in the air as she hovered in front of Risha. "I can see you've been through a lot, but Miri... she's been through so much more. She loves you, Risha. More than you'll ever understand."
Risha's heart clenched at the words. "But what happened? What did she do to bring me back?"
Mitzy sighed and landed softly on the windowsill, her tiny form glowing with warmth. "Let me tell you, then. Let me tell you the truth—the whole story."
Risha nodded, her heart heavy with the need for answers, for clarity. She leaned forward, her gaze never leaving Mitzy.
"It started long before you fell into that deep sleep," Mitzy began, her voice soft, as if she were telling a cherished secret. "Miri promised your mother, didn't she? She promised she would save you. No matter what it took. And she kept that promise—she would never, ever let you go. She loved you like a sister, Risha. Not just any sister, but one who shared her soul. That bond was unbreakable."
Risha closed her eyes, feeling the weight of the truth in Mitzy's words. It was true. Miri had always been there for her, through thick and thin. But to know that Miri loved her so deeply, beyond the bond of blood, was something that filled Risha's heart with a bittersweet ache.
Mitzy continued, her eyes glinting with a touch of sadness. "You don't know how far Miri went, how much she endured. She traveled to the Land of Roots, faced trials that no mortal or demi-immortal should ever have to face. Four rulers—each with their own domain—tested her, not just her power, but her heart. They pushed her to her limits. And she passed every trial. All for you. She fought not just for your life, Risha, she fought her family too."
