Months had passed since the battle against Osial and the Fatui's schemes in Liyue. Wukong had stayed in the harbor, immersing himself in its bustling life. The city's warmth and vibrancy had become something of a solace for him, though he often found himself staring off at the distant mountains, lost in thought. He'd spent the time sampling every delicacy the harbor had to offer, occasionally helping locals with minor issues—if only to keep his restless hands busy.
One day, while wandering near Feiyun Slope, Wukong's ears perked up at the sound of a gathering crowd. Curiosity piqued, he made his way to the center of the commotion, where Ningguang stood atop a raised platform, her elegant figure framed by the midday sun. Her voice rang clear across the crowd.
"People of Liyue," she began, her authoritative tone commanding attention. "The Jade Chamber was a symbol of our strength, our unity, and our dedication to Liyue's future. Though it was lost in the battle against Osial, I have resolved to rebuild it, grander than ever before."
The crowd erupted in cheers and murmurs of excitement. Wukong crossed his arms, his tail flicking in intrigue. Rebuilding the Jade Chamber? He admired her tenacity, though a part of him still regretted not being able to stop its destruction.
Ningguang raised a hand, silencing the crowd. "However, to reconstruct something of such magnitude, I require three materials: Sunset Vermillionite, Wonder Core, and Adepti Sigils. These are rare and difficult to obtain. As such, I will offer a reward to the first three individuals who can bring me these materials."
The crowd buzzed with anticipation. Ningguang's crimson gaze swept across the gathered people, a sly smile gracing her lips. "To those who succeed, I will allow you to ask me one question—any question—and I will answer it honestly to the best of my ability."
The promise of such a reward sent a ripple of excitement through the crowd. Wukong raised an eyebrow. "A question, huh? Bet that'll bring out every treasure hunter from here to Inazuma."
Before he could lose interest, a familiar voice caught his attention.
"We'll take that challenge!" Paimon's cheerful tone rang out as she and Lumine stepped forward from the crowd.
Wukong froze, his golden eyes locking onto the pair. A grin spread across his face as he strode through the throng. "Well, look who finally decided to show up. Took you long enough."
Lumine turned at his voice, a flicker of surprise crossing her features before softening into a small smile. "Wukong... It's been a while."
"Yeah, months," Wukong teased, his grin widening. "Thought you two got lost or something. What, did you decide Mondstadt was more fun than Liyue?"
Paimon puffed up indignantly. "Hey! We've been busy, okay? Do you know how much work it takes to deal with Fatui plots, ancient ruins, and—you know—all the other stuff we do?"
"Sounds exhausting," Wukong replied, his tone light. "No wonder you both look like you've been dragged through a storm."
Lumine chuckled softly, though her eyes seemed distant. Wukong's sharp gaze didn't miss it. "But seriously," he said, his tone shifting. "You don't look like yourself. What's up?"
Lumine hesitated, her smile faltering. She glanced at Paimon, who gave her an encouraging nod. "It's... a long story," she admitted. "Let's just say we've seen some things that weren't easy to face."
Wukong tilted his head, his playful demeanor fading. "Seen some things? That doesn't sound like the fearless Traveler I know. You wanna talk about it?"
"I..." Lumine hesitated again, looking away. "It's not something I want to burden you with."
