Y/N's POV

"Indayang bayah angsuran manut galah utawi Sameton minab dados pelanggar," the bank clerk said calmly, his detached tone mocking the storm raging inside me. This was the sixth installment of the personal loan I had taken out for my surgery last year. Four more to go. Yet, I had no idea how I would make it that far.

A chill ran down my spine when he reminded me to pay on time next month. Oh, sure-let me just harvest cash from the money trees growing in my backyard guesthouse. The interest alone was enough to suffocate me, if not the surgery or the incident that had led to it.

With a weary sigh, I stepped outside. The sun was blazing, sapping whatever energy I had left. The journey back to the treehouse was three and a half miles, and my injured leg certainly wasn't making things easier. The pain had been worsening with each passing day, and the painkillers barely dulled it anymore.

Sometimes, I fantasize about resting. Resting so deeply, so completely, that I wouldn't have to endure any of this. But then, I picture the fluffy faces of my children. They need me. Resting, giving up-it just wasn't an option.

There was a time, not so long ago, when life felt blissful. I had everything I could ever ask for. I remember how someone was always there to pick me up, to drive me wherever I needed to go. Even if I protested, he would insist. I was pampered-cherished-like a princess.

His princess.

Flashback

"Baby, you don't have to come. I'm just a hundred meters away from the bus stop," I said, whining into the phone. My tone was half-annoyed, but my heart was secretly fluttering. He had been golfing with his father and friends-a rare bonding time I didn't want to interrupt-but here he was, already on his way to pick me up.

I sighed, knowing how much his father loved showing him off to his friends. Who wouldn't? He was effortlessly talented. The thought made me giggle.

It had been a month since that unforgettable day when we made love at his apartment, and ever since, he'd been so adorably clingy. Not that I was complaining. As someone who had always been the clingy one, seeing him this way made my heart race in the best way possible.

I still remember waking up that morning to find him sprawled across my chest, his hair a soft, fluffy mess. As I ran my fingers through it and tried to move, his arms tightened around me. "It's too early, babe. Sleep some more," he murmured, his face nuzzling into the crook of my neck. The tenderness of that moment made my head spin.
