Chapter 36: Under the Moonlight

SPG

I should be sleeping right now just like the other women in the house of pleasure, but here I was, sitting on my sleeping covers, staring at the slightly opened window with that golden-like dust in the air as the moonlight touches it.

He was there at the other side of that window, probably standing confidently while waiting for me.

But didn't we agree to stay focused on each other's task right now?

What about Livius?

I ran my fingers through my hair as I slowly got up from my bed, but with my every movement, my lips were opened, whistling a soft melody— a lullaby that would further bring these women around me to their dreams.

Suddenly, I felt like a singer in an opera, with my small voice lingering in the room, where the thin curtains were dancing in the air, where the slightly opened window with a glimpse of light was a tease, and with my tiptoed steps as I avoided the sleeping bodies.

I must have looked like a swan— a ballerina from the human world behind the curtain of an opera— dancing with her own rhythm. I continued my slow humming but as I passed by a few women with their creased brows probably a nightmare trying to interrupt their beautiful dream, still with my voice, I approached every one of them and with my gentle fingers I massaged the middle of their brows.

At least my songs would bring them to their dreams without interruption, which would take them years to fulfill as they would have chosen this life tied to serve.

When I stopped humming, now with that smile on their faces, I finally stood straight before I faced the window, sliding it slowly, dust was evident in the old wood, but I ignored it and moved it further.

How did we endure those years of distance if this was how he'd affect me with his few hours of absence?

King Kreios Sageton Doyle was standing, holding his head so high as he met his gaze with mine. He had that gentle smile on his face as the wind blew, tousling his brown hair. He was still wearing that overly exposed clothing of a spoiled aristocrat, a combination of soft satin brushing on his chest and a glimmering mesh. His hands were in his pocket.

Just like what I had expected he was standing confidently in front of me as if he was in the middle of his castle and he had all the time in the world, and everything was under control.

"Why are you here?"

He arched his brows. "At thought you'd like to take a bite?"

"Come here, darling love," he softly said.

And in a moment, after my shadow covered the moon as I threw myself in the air, I found myself in his arms. He had caught me as if he had done this with me a million times.
