Rin's POV:

Rin Itoshi sat on the edge of his bed, the dim light of his phone illuminating his face as the chaos of the Blue Lock group chat continued to unfold. Notifications pinged incessantly, a flood of messages piling up faster than he could read. Yet, despite his usual disdain for the chatter, he didn't mute it this time.

He wasn't entirely sure why. Maybe it was because of her.

Y/N's name popped up repeatedly, her messages scattered among the barrage of jokes and nonsense from the others. Rin's eyes skimmed over her words:

Y/N:
omg shidou i love you so much thank you my king 🙏🙏🙏

He frowned. It was clearly sarcasm—he knew that—but something about it still grated on his nerves.

Shidou:
np i love you too bbg 😍

Rin's lips pressed into a thin line. He knew Y/N didn't actually like Shidou, but the way she played along so easily with his antics irritated him more than he cared to admit.

Why does she humor him?

As the conversation spiraled, Rin's annoyance grew. It wasn't just Shidou. It was Otoya and Karasu's overly affectionate banter, Bachira spamming everyone with mentions, and Y/N encouraging all of it.

But even amidst the chaos, Rin found his attention drawn to her.

Y/N:
am i the only one who thinks they are dating from when i called you guys???

Her message made him pause. He remembered that call. It was brief, a fleeting moment during one of their games, but her voice had lingered in his mind longer than it should have.

Why?

He shook his head, brushing the thought aside.

As the chat shifted into absurd debates about Barou's so-called "hot Fiji" status, Rin tried to focus on anything else—anything but her. But it was impossible. Her name kept appearing, her words laced with a blend of wit and warmth that was uniquely hers.

Y/N:
guys guys hear me out plz

Reo:
lord no plz

Nagi:
hearing

Bachira:
ears opened 🦻

Y/N:
Barou....

Her message trailed off, leaving room for chaos to ensue. Rin rolled his eyes. She was clearly baiting them, and they took it every time.

Barou:
wtf

Despite himself, Rin found his lips twitching at her antics. He hated how easily she could get under his skin, he felt an unusual feeling in his chest but ignored it.

Rin didn't know when it happened—when Y/N had started to take up so much space in his mind. It wasn't just her skill on the field, though that was remarkable. It wasn't just her quick wit, her ability to fire back retorts that left even Shidou stunned. It wasn't even the way she seemed to carry herself with an effortless confidence that drew people in.

It was all of it. Every little thing about her left him utterly captivated.

He found himself looking for her in every situation, drawn to her like gravity. Her laugh—it was rare but genuine—lingered in his mind longer than he wanted to admit. The way she scrunched her nose in concentration when working through a difficult drill or how her eyes sparkled with determination when the stakes were high.
