"Come on up, girls, it's 6.15, and you will be late for school. Which, by the way, you have to be there in 45 minutes." Mom yelled

"5 more minutes," Riley said with a sleepy voice

"You especially Riley, your father will be very upset if don't go to school"

"Why do we even go to school? " Maya groaned

"Oh wait, I almost forgot about Topanga's reaction if I tell her that you woke up late." Mom grinned

We all sprung up from the bed and got ready.

We were just 10 minutes late to school but luckily school starts at 7.30.  We just have to be there for attendance.

We caught up with Lucas, Zay, and Farkle, who also had a sleepover at Farkle's.
I still get shivers down my spine when I think about that night and the stars.

"So Gia, you excited for tomorrow?" Riley asked

"Excited for what?" Zay counter asked

"It's her birthday" Maya replied

"Really? Is that true or are the three of you just messing around for a present " Farkle said

"Yeah, Farkle. Really. We are not messing around with you." I said

"Yeah, Farkle, why would she want to mess around with you?" Riley said stupidly

Everyone looked at her confused and Maya gave her an angry eye

"Sorry," Riley muttered

She is sweet but I hope she doesn't blow it for me

The bell rang as we entered the class

"What is the secret of life?" Said Mr. Matthews

"Oh god, here we go again," Zay and I  spoke up at the same time

"Thank you, Gia and Zay. As I was saying I want all of you to keep reflective journals" said Mr Matthews

" What's a reflective journal, Mr. Matthews?" Asked Lucas

"A reflective journal is a place where you can write down your thoughts, feelings, and insights about what we're learning in life and our peace of mind," Farkle said

"Do we have to write a lot?" Lucas said skeptically

"Not necessarily, Lucas. You can write as much or as little as you like. The important thing is to be honest and reflective." Mr Matthews smiled

"Can we draw pictures too?" Maya said excitedly

"Maya. You can draw pictures, write poetry, or even record a video reflection. The format is up to you." Mr Matthews said while laughing

"What kind of questions should we answer in our journals?" I asked

"Well, Gia, I want you to think about what you're learning in life and, as a teenager, what you are feeling.  This is an age where you feel many things. Some people are certain, and others are not. I want you to answer your questions." He replied

"Remember, your journals are for your eyes only. This is a safe space for you to reflect and grow."

The bell rings

"Ok, class dismissed. Oh, and remember, at the end of one week, I want you to read one paragraph from your journals. Whichever one you the most comfortable sharing with."

After school, when I walk home with Lucas, he suddenly excuses himself to run some errands when he sees Farkle catch up.

"Hey, Gia!" He yells

"Hey! What are you doing here? Isn't your home the other way?"

"Ya well um I wanted to meet up with a friend who lives this way"

"Oh," I say skeptically.  He is lying. I can see that on his face.

"Which friend?" I ask

"Oh well, it's just someone I know." He replies quickly

He is getting better at lying day by day. I remember when he had to lie for Riley's birthday a few months ago. It was so obvious that even Auggie caught him.

"Right. " I say

Why would he lie though I wonder

"We are meeting at Topanga's right?" He asks

"Yes. At 4 I think".

That is only one and a half hours away

"You are coming right?" He asks again

"Ya, I'll be there," I reply

3.57 pm

I walked in at Topanga's and everyone was there. I thought I was late until I checked the time on my phone

"Since when did you guys become early birds?" I asked while sitting down beside Zay

"Nothing. It's just a coincidence, I guess." Says Zay

This is weirdly suspicious. Do they think I am that dumb? I laugh a bit while thinking.

"So, Gia, what are your interests?" Farkle asks

"You already know. " I say and immediately regret it after seeing the look on Maya's face

"Oh, does he know? Well, he would like to know more, and so would we. " Maya says

"I don't know, um, I very much like Strawberries, Taylor Swift, music, art, and Netflix. I honestly don't know what you want me to say." I say. I might as well get an advantage out of this.

"That's enough for us," Lucas says

"I have seen your art and it's lovely", Maya says

Everyone looks at me with curiosity.

Art is something I gatekeep to myself, and Maya just saw me sketching one day in my book and asked me to show her some more stuff. I think she was impressed by the look on her face.

"Yeah, thanks, Maya," I say

"Well, I'll have to see it someday," Farkle says
