During the weeklong time-skip, Lars found himself busier than ever, balancing the success of the newly revamped Classic Donut with his personal commitments. Beyond the demands of the shop, where business was booming, Lars continued to fulfill his promise of training Connie in swordsmanship. Ever since she and Steven approached him for guidance, he had taken the role of their mentor seriously.
Unlike Steven, who often found himself tied up in Gem-related adventures and could train only here and there with Connie but now this time while absent for an entire week. Connie had the freedom to train regularly with much more focus.
Peridot and Lapis were frequent observers during the sessions. Over time, the tension between the two Gems seemed to ease. Lapis, who had previously been emotionally volatile, was calmer now, and Peridot had toned down her attitude. While they weren't even close to best friends, their arguments had become less frequent, this was a good development from both gems and it made Lars life easier.
Lars: You're getting better, Connie, but don't get too comfortable with your opponent's rhythm. Let's see how you handle something unexpected.
Without warning, Lars shifts his sparring method. Instead of blade strikes, he lunges with raw strength, delivering a powerful downward blow. Connie blocks it, but the force pushes her back a few steps behind her as she grit her teeth and stopped sliding back.
Connie: Got it... Stay sharp.
She charged at Lars who quickly followed up with a sudden kick aimed at her midsection as she was in mid air. Connie's eyes widen, and she narrowly dodges by twisting her body and using the weight of the sword to tap the ground so slightly and used that smallest upper momentum to glaze the tip of Lars boots as due to her small frame, She was able to take the advantage, narrowing escaping Lars upper kick. Emerging behind him, she quickly raises her wooden sword, pointing it toward his back.
Lars paused his mid kick frozen in the air before slowly lowering it.
**I am giving my own attempt for my art for this story though not very often as I am not the best at it and prefer to use Photoshop above all else as that is what I am use to. The first Art I've made has been released in CHAPTER 1.**
'This art was inspired by the magnificent art talent of... Honwaka_zz!'
Lars: ...Not bad.
He turns to face Connie, nodding in approval.
Lars: You didn't let yourself get boxed in. Instead of getting boxed in with little area to move, you took notice of your surrounding while using the advantages of being small and outmaneuver right pass me... That is progress.
Connie: Thanks, Lars! I've been trying to focus on staying aware of my surroundings, like you said... It just sucks when I cant do the same against Warcher, He is as short as me.
Lars: Most of your opponent would be taller then you but in the case they are your size, having a keen sense and not just seeing but overserving can be the game changer in all fights. Just remember, staying calm under pressure is key. Next time, though... Don't let your guard down after you land the counter.
Connie felt a small sharp poke from her back as she saw a short sword that was levitating in mid air was aimed at her as she didn't even notice. Connie would just smile nervously and laugh it off before turning to Lars with a grin.
Connie: Understood!
[Later On]
The warm glow of the afternoon sun filtered through the windows of the Classic Donut. The lively hum of conversation filled the shop as customers sat at their tables, enjoying their treats.
In the kitchen, Lars stood over the preparation bench, his expression focused. The golden rings of dough puffed up in the bubbling oil as he flipped them with a pair of tongs. On the counter beside him, completed orders were neatly arranged, ready for pickup.
Sadie, walking around the room to table to table, tapped away on her order device, sending the latest requests straight to Lars. She glanced toward the kitchen to see Lars had his full attention on the meals as she kept up to her part and take the completed orders to the tables of customers.
A soft beep from the kitchen tablet confirmed the new order. Lars glanced at the screen.
'2x classic glazed, 1x chocolate frosted, and a black coffee'.
The order was on the screen as Lars after finishing one of the meals would work on that order, not rushing but not taking his time, keeping a consistent rhythm of preparing and cooking with efficiency as he placed the donuts and the coffee on a steel platter and placed it on the counter wall where Sadie was already there, balancing a another tray with practiced ease on her other hand. She offered Lars a quick grin.
Sadie: Thanks, chef. Table four, coming right up.
She navigated the shop floor with the tray, her movements smooth and confident as she delivered the order to a waiting family. while soon after getting another order as a soft beep from the kitchen was heard.
'1x cinnamon twist and a strawberry milkshake'.
Lars washed his hands before wiping on a towel and reached for the dough.
He close to himself and breathe out softly before beginning to blend the milkshake as the cinnamon twist baked to perfection.
It was a normal day in The Classic Donut.
[Night-Time]
What was suppose to be a nice day turned into a late night, Lars was effectively forced to watch a series with Peridot and Lapis after a long day work. The screen before them was flashing as mostly two main cast was having a romance trouble about forbidden love though the show was never interesting to him, however the same was not said by Peridot and Lapis, Peridot was already addicted to the series, constantly requesting Lars for more documentation of the show which was fine and all but now Lapis was getting into it.
That is why he was stuck between the both as Lapis was the closest to Lars, pretty much not releasing his arm, keeping him down from leaving as they watched the show for nearly the entire night.
