Chapter Seventeen
Qin Peng was somewhat confused and then saw Qin Shu Huai swing his knife down towards those people.
His guards were all elites, but the attackers were no pushovers either. After a while, his guards fell, and there were still seven assassins left, surrounding Qin Shu Huai. Qin Shu Huai's expression remained unchanged as he glanced up at Qin Peng.
That glance revealed no emotion. Qin Peng smiled but said nothing. At that moment, one of the assassins followed Qin Shu Huai's gaze and noticed Qin Peng's presence. The assassin leaped up and charged towards Qin Peng, who was lying on the tree. As the assassin approached, she suddenly drew a short sword from her sleeve and swiftly cut the assassin's throat.
Blood sprayed down from above, shocking several assassins.
"There's someone else!"
One of them shouted, and two assassins rushed to intercept Qin Peng while the rest charged towards Qin Shu Huai.
Qin Peng knew her own abilities well; she had merely taken advantage of the enemy's unpreparedness earlier. Now that they were coming at her directly, she definitely couldn't withstand it.
So she jumped down without hesitation, rushing directly behind Qin Shu Huai.
Qin Shu Huai's expression improved a bit. He swung his knife in front of the person chasing Qin Peng, protecting her behind him.
"Oh dear, oh dear, my lord, save me!"
Qin Peng was actually a bit nervous inside, but her face still wore a cheerful smile.
Qin Shu Huai was a strange person. She clearly knew he had killed her three times, and even when she first reincarnated, she thought about taking revenge on him. That thought had not been abandoned, though it was not as intense as it had been back then. Yet, despite this, in such a situation, with Qin Shu Huai protecting her, she still felt a great sense of security.
Qin Peng analyzed her own mindset.
First, she might feel that if they were to die, they should die together; with Qin Shu Huai accompanying her to the grave, she had no regrets. After all, she would be dead, and perhaps when she opened her eyes again, she would be a hero. Death was just death; she had become accustomed to it.
Secondly, she might think that Qin Shu Huai wouldn't kill her. After all, Wei Yan was alive and well, and the Wei family army was right outside. If she died, Wei Yan would not let him off.
In short, it was impossible that her inner feelings towards Qin Shu Huai provided her with any sense of security...
Forget it.
Qin Peng felt it was better not to think too deeply about this issue and to focus on the current situation instead.
Hiding behind Qin Shu Huai, Qin Peng assessed the situation. While Qin Shu Huai protected her, he fought against the assassins, asking, "They're not yours?"
Qin Peng looked bewildered: "Why would you think they are mine?"
"Then why didn't you run earlier?"
The coldness around Qin Shu Huai seemed to lessen, making Qin Peng even more puzzled: "They didn't notice me. Why would I run? If I did, wouldn't they discover me?"
Qin Shu Huai: "..."
The remaining ones were all elites, and Qin Shu Huai could not hold them off alone. After a while, he was injured. Qin Peng thought for a moment and said to Qin Shu Huai, "Let's go towards the cliff!"
Qin Shu Huai's eyes moved, understanding Qin Peng's intention, and decisively said, "Below is flat ground, no lake. I won't jump."
"Oh, don't worry," Qin Peng whispered, "I have a plan. Just follow me and jump!"
Qin Shu Huai said nothing, suspecting that Qin Peng was tricking him into dying together.
However, the five assassins' attacks became increasingly fierce, and Qin Shu Huai was struggling to hold on. He bit his lip, made a decision, and dragged Qin Peng towards the cliff, then without saying a word, pulled her and jumped down!
As they jumped, the mountain wind whipped painfully against them, and Qin Peng's long white silk flew up, wrapping around a branch on the cliff.
However, the momentum from the fall was too strong, and the branch broke instantly. Qin Peng kept wrapping around and breaking branches on the cliff to slow their descent.
Just as they jumped down, the assassins pursued them.
To jump or not to jump?
The assassins thought seriously for a moment, looking at the misty cliff below, and decided...
To jump!
Since Qin Peng and Qin Shu Huai dared to jump, there must be a lake or something below. If they let them escape, they feared their whole family would be in danger.
So several assassins jumped down without hesitation.
Jumping off a cliff wouldn't mean death.
Jumping off a cliff often leads to adventures.
Thinking this, the assassins soon encountered Qin Peng and Qin Shu Huai, who had landed first.
At that moment, Qin Peng had just grabbed a branch with her silk when she saw five figures falling without any obstruction. The assassins also spotted Qin Peng and Qin Shu Huai hanging on the wall, and one of them couldn't help but shout, "There's no lake!"
Another shouted, "Damn you!"
The remaining three shouted something before plummeting down, and moments later, the valley echoed with five loud thuds.
Qin Shu Huai looked up at Qin Peng. At this moment, he was holding her waist, and she was grasping the silk. The branch bent slightly, and Qin Shu Huai slowly said, "They must have died from the fall, right?"
"Probably..."
Qin Peng felt a bit scared inside.
She had dared to jump because she had calculated that she had a long silk made of thousands of silkworms, which, according to her skill level, could allow her to pull herself down safely. The chance of survival was definitely greater than staying up there. However, this required a high level of skill, and one misstep could lead to disaster.
Qin Peng was not afraid initially, but after hearing those five thuds, she suddenly felt a bit anxious.
Fortunately, Qin Shu Huai remained extremely calm, saying, "Let's go down; we're not far from the bottom of the cliff."
"Okay."
Qin Peng coughed lightly to appear more composed, then swung the silk towards the next branch, swinging all the way down to the bottom of the cliff.
As they approached the bottom, the force of their fall caused Qin Peng's hands to tremble slightly, making it hard to hold onto the silk. On the last swing, the silk slipped, and they both fell directly to the ground!
Qin Peng's mind went blank, and Qin Shu Huai, who was right behind her, caught her in his arms, and they hit the ground hard.
There was a protruding rock on the ground right under Qin Shu Huai's feet. Qin Peng heard a "crack" echoing in the valley, sending a shiver down her spine.
Before Qin Peng could react on Qin Shu Huai, he coldly said, "Get down!"
Qin Peng immediately reacted, rolling away and quickly checking her body, finding no serious injuries, just some scratches on her hands. At that moment, she looked at Qin Shu Huai, who was propping himself up to sit, checking his leg.
He had several wounds on him, and his complexion was somewhat pale, indicating he was not feeling well, but his expression was very calm. Qin Peng was unsure how severe his injuries were, so she cautiously approached and asked, "What happened to you?"
"My leg is broken."
Qin Shu Huai answered calmly, grabbing a branch from the side, tearing his clothes, and stabilizing the broken bone in his calf.
Upon hearing this, Qin Peng was delighted, exclaiming, "Your leg is broken? Then I'll be leaving first; you wait here..."
Before she could finish, Qin Shu Huai grabbed her and pulled her against the cliff wall, his knife pressing against her cheek.
He was very close to her, and the knife and his body created a confined space, as if he had wrapped her entirely in his embrace.
His gaze was calm yet filled with killing intent, like a beast staring at its prey, making one shiver.
Faced with such a gaze, Qin Peng felt a bit intimidated, yet she still smiled and looked at Qin Shu Huai, asking, "What are you doing, my lord?"
"If you want to die, I can send you off anytime." Qin Shu Huai spoke coldly, devoid of any emotion: "Don't challenge my patience."
He was so close that she could clearly see his eyelashes and the lines of his lips.
His eyelashes were long, and from a distance, he appeared very aloof. Now that he was so close, those fluttering eyelashes seemed to tease one's heart.
Qin Shu Huai was handsome, and Qin Peng had always known that. Now, looking at him up close, she surprisingly felt a sense of romance, as if she were a flower dying under the moonlight in her past lives.
She curled her lips, smiling without speaking. She realized that Qin Shu Huai had held back until now, which wasn't easy for him. She loved to challenge others' limits, especially those she found displeasing, teasing them like a cat, gauging when they would explode, then pulling back with an innocent expression.
At this moment, looking at Qin Shu Huai, she understood that he was on the edge of exploding. So she immediately raised her hands in surrender, looking innocent: "Alright, alright, I was wrong. Since your leg is broken, what do you want me to do?"
Qin Shu Huai said nothing, directly pinching and tossing her a pill, lifting his chin in a very casual manner. Qin Peng was stunned for a moment and then reacted: "What did you just make me take?!"
"An antidote to be taken once a month. Come find me yourself." Qin Shu Huai pulled the knife from the wall, his expression flat: "Let's go."
"Go?" Qin Peng was a bit confused: "Your leg is broken; what are we going to do?"
Qin Shu Huai remained silent, quietly staring at Qin Peng. After a long while, Qin Peng finally realized, her face instantly reddening: "You want me to carry you?!"
"Otherwise?"
"Qin Shu Huai, is your face a pancake? It's so big?!" Qin Peng was furious: "I'm such a delicate and beautiful princess; anyone who sees me would feel pity and love for me, and you want me to carry you?!"
Qin Shu Huai still said nothing, his gaze calmly fixed on the white silk in Qin Peng's hands.
"I admit you're a princess," he said coldly, "but the preceding adjectives, I think, should be removed."
