Chapter Nine

Shuhuai led the way to the West Wing with great momentum. Just as he arrived at the door, he heard Qin Peng's gasping voice from inside: "Wait... yes, right there... press harder... ah..."

Qin Peng's voice was gentle and soft, clearly showing signs of pain. Despite that, there seemed to be no other emotions in her voice. But with her soft voice calling out, the men and women present blushed instantly. Only Shuhuai remained calm, his expression unchanged like an old tree firmly rooted in place.

Shuhuai stood at the door, giving a signal to the steward beside him. The steward immediately stepped forward, knocked on the door, and said, "Your Highness, have you rested?"

"Ah... just a moment." Qin Peng was being comforted, and upon hearing the steward's voice, she knew it was Shuhuai at the door. She wasn't worried and instructed the maidservant behind her, "You may leave." Then she got up and started to dress.

After she finished dressing, she lazily gestured towards the outside, "Come in."

The people outside couldn't wait any longer. Shuhuai stood in the corridor, not saying a word, but everyone felt a chill down their spine.

To think that a girl could effortlessly enter like this, their guard must have been completely let down.

Many people felt embarrassed and angry, especially the deceived steward. Upon hearing the noise inside, he forcefully pushed the door open, only to see Qin Peng lying lazily on the couch, casting a sidelong glance.

That glance made everyone feel uneasy. Even though Qin Peng was dressed neatly and her posture wasn't too out of place, the scene still gave off a slightly inappropriate vibe. Qin Peng's gaze fell on Shuhuai's calm face and she smiled, saying, "The prince has arrived? Come, sit," Qin Peng patted the cushion next to her, "Let's talk about important matters."

"Fourth Princess," Shuhuai spoke indifferently, "Perhaps you have forgotten your identity."

"My identity?" Qin Peng smiled, "I haven't forgotten. I came to see the prince, but the prince refused to see me. What else could I do?"

Shuhuai remained silent, looking at the woman in a simple robe who exuded a captivating charm. Unknowingly, he thought of Zhao Peng.

Zhao Peng was similar in nature. In less formal situations, she would behave in an unconventional manner. Despite her elegant and aloof appearance, she could easily switch to a mischievous smile, giving off a lazy yet alluring vibe.

Everyone would talk about her disdainfully, but secretly desired to get closer to her.

Zhao Peng enjoyed seeing others act reserved while secretly yearning for her. She once told him, "Shuhuai, what I dislike the most is seeing people behave properly. The more serious you are, the more I want to see your playful side; the more you pretend to be composed, the more I want to see you lose your composure."

Now, as Qin Peng looked at him, her eyes held a familiar expression, giving him a sudden illusion as if an old friend had returned.

But...

Shuhuai suppressed the chaotic thoughts and told himself it was impossible.

That person had been dead for six years. If she were to come back, she would have done so long ago. If she truly loved him and cared for him, how could she bear to see him mourn her lifeless body and suffer in silence for so many years? How could she bear to see him degrade himself and become what he was now?

She was dead, completely dead. If it was really her returning, she would have first told him and asked, "Shuhuai, how have you been?"

But the person in front of him only cared about power struggles and protecting the nine-year-old emperor. How could this person possibly be his Peng Peng?

As Shuhuai's confused mind slowly regained clarity, the initial anger dissipated. He didn't intend to talk more with Qin Peng and simply said, "Princess, it's time to leave after causing enough trouble."

"How can that be?" Qin Peng smiled, "If I leave and you still refuse to see me, what should I do?"

"Are you planning to stay here?" Shuhuai remained calm, showing no signs of anger, which surprised Qin Peng. She pushed further, "Are you planning to let me stay?"

"Take her out and throw her away."

With those words, Shuhuai turned and left. Qin Peng hesitated for a moment, but two sturdy women were already by her side, grabbing her arms. Feeling anxious, Qin Peng urged, "Wait, Shuhuai, I am a princess! Is this how you treat me? Let go! Let me go!"

Qin Peng's anxious voice echoed as the two women dragged her out. Their strength was immense, lifting Qin Peng off the ground and heading towards the main gate.

Chun Su followed behind them, shouting, "How dare you! Release the princess! You are being too audacious..."

A moment later, the gates of Huai'an Palace opened, and Qin Peng was thrown out directly, followed by the gates slamming shut with a loud bang. Chun Su rushed forward to help Qin Peng, looking like she was about to cry, "Mistress, what are you doing?"

Qin Peng took a deep breath, suppressing her anger.

She had thought Shuhuai would give her some face, but after years of not seeing each other, Shuhuai's temper had only grown worse. A princess, and he actually... threw her out!

Being driven out was one thing, but being thrown out?!

Qin Peng had always believed that shamelessness made one invincible. But today, she finally understood that in Shuhuai's eyes, if you were shameless, he would completely disregard you.

No matter... the goal was achieved.

Qin Peng was helped up by Chun Su, muttering repeatedly, "It's alright, I'm being generous, I'm not angry, it's not a big deal..."

Chun Su was so frightened by Qin Peng's demeanor that she felt like crying. Qin Peng, unable to contain herself, pushed Chun Su away and rushed to the gate of Huai'an Palace, kicking it fiercely and shouting angrily, "Shuhuai, you bastard!"

After venting, Qin Peng's anger subsided a bit. She turned around, and in Chun Su's stunned expression, she said fiercely, "Back to the mansion!"

The next morning, Qin Peng was summoned by the Dowager Wei. Madam Wei had breakfast with Qin Peng, unable to bear the meaningful look in Madam Wei's eyes, Qin Peng put down his chopsticks and said, "Mother, just say what you have to say."

"Just... I heard that you were at the Huai'an Prince's Mansion until last night?"

Qin Peng was not surprised by the question and smiled gently, "Who did you hear it from? Was it from our own people, or from outside?"

"Of course it was from our own people," Madam Wei hurriedly said, "Your reputation is fine, don't worry."

Qin Peng nodded, and Madam Wei quickly added, "But even if your reputation is tarnished, I don't mind, as long as you are happy. You've been a widow for so many years, if you want to remarry, I support it. Shuhuai is indeed a good young man. If you marry him, it would be a strong alliance. He doesn't even think about harming Yan'er, I think it's great."

Qin Peng: "..."

Madam Wei's thoughts were indeed unique. She wanted to remind Madam Wei that she is from her husband's family, not her own family. If Shuhuai really married her, even if Madam Wei didn't mind, she would definitely not be happy, let alone stop causing trouble for Yan'er.

But she felt that saying this would hurt Madam Wei, who clearly treated her like a daughter. So she explained, "Mother, don't misunderstand. When I went to the Huai'an Prince's Mansion, it was to gather information."

"Gather information?" Madam Wei was surprised, and Qin Peng nodded, "To save my younger uncle, the more information I have, the more help I can provide. Mother, please don't listen to what others say. I am preparing to save my younger uncle."

"I see..." Madam Wei sounded somewhat disappointed, and Qin Peng glanced at her, really wanting to wake up this old lady, what are you disappointed about!

After breakfast, Qin Peng went to Shuhuai's house to keep watch.

This time she couldn't go in, so she hid in the carriage, watching the Huai'an Prince's Mansion.

Tomorrow was the day Shuhuai would make his move, if she could hold on for one more day, she would win.

Chun Su and Qiu Su, the two maids, had completely no idea what Qin Peng was doing. They just thought their mistress had gone crazy, so they followed Qin Peng's orders to buy all kinds of food and bring them to the carriage for her to eat.

Of course, all of Qin Peng's actions were observed by Shuhuai. Since Qin Peng appeared at the Huai'an Prince's Mansion, Shuhuai's spies had reported it.

"Lord, Fourth Princess is here again."

"Lord, Fourth Princess hasn't left yet."

"Lord, Fourth Princess is still persisting..."

After finishing his official business, Shuhuai finally had time to pay attention to Qin Peng. He looked at the reports from the servants one by one.

"She is very familiar with the mansion," Shuhuai said calmly, looking at the reports, "She has been inquiring about my whereabouts."

Jiang Chun stood aside, somewhat absent-minded. After Shuhuai finished reading the reports, he looked up.

"Jiang Chun."

"At your service."

"What do you think, why is the Fourth Princess constantly pestering me?"

"I think there are two possibilities. First, the Fourth Princess is plotting something!"

"Saying it is as good as not saying it."

"Second!" Jiang Chun raised his head, "I think, the Fourth Princess might be pursuing you!"

Shuhuai paused for a moment, then directly smashed the reports in his hand onto Jiang Chun's face.

"Stop reading nonsense."
