★.-Zarar smiled as he read his wife's message, his heart warming after a long and hectic day. Running his fingers through his hair, he sighed, feeling a pang of guilt rise within him.
He never thought a simple message could make him smile like this.
"But she's not just someone. She's my wife, Mahenoor Zarar Khan."
A soft smile tugged at his lips as he slid into the driver's seat, started the engine, and sped onto the empty road. The city had quieted down for the night, leaving the streets deserted. The cool night breeze streamed in through the open window, brushing against his face, while the roar of his car's engine filled the silence.
The tires screeched as he took sharp turns, his hands skillfully maneuvering the steering wheel. His grip tightened with each motion, and a satisfied gleam sparkled in his eyes every time he overtook another car.
Every mile brought him closer to Mahenoor, leaving behind the burdens of the day.
He smirked as he sped past yet another vehicle. The adrenaline coursing through his veins wasn't just from the speed-it was the thought of seeing her, the thought of her waiting for him.
The shrill ring of his phone broke the rhythm of his thoughts. At first, he ignored it, but curiosity got the better of him. A quick glance at the screen made him arch an eyebrow in surprise.
His father-in-law.
A flicker of worry crossed his mind. Was Mahenoor okay? Without a second thought, he picked up the call, his voice laced with urgency.
"Assalamualaikum, khairiyat abbu? Why are you calling me at this hour? Is Mahenoor okay? Did something happen to her?" He fired off questions without waiting for a reply.
"Relax, barkhurdar. Ab hum AI to hain nahi jo itne saare sawaalon ka ek saath jawab de dein," Shadab Sahab teased, his tone lighthearted.
Zarar bit his lower lip, embarrassed. He straightened his posture, his confidence returning as he turned the steering wheel effortlessly with one hand.
"Ji, toh walaikum assalam. Your wife is perfectly fine. No need to worry. But... yes..." Shadab Sahab trailed off, making Zarar's grip on the steering tighten.
"Yes?" he asked, his voice edged with impatience.
"My daughter is missing her husband, who apparently forgot to call or even reply to her texts. She's very angry right now. So, may I know what you did to upset her?" Shadab Sahab's playful tone echoed through the call.
Zarar cleared his throat, the speedometer needle inching higher as he struggled to explain himself. "I... um... something came up at the company. I got busy and, uh, didn't realize I was making her wait."
"Oh, I see," came the knowing reply.
Zarar felt as if Shadab Sahab was smirking on the other end of the line.
