It was now halfway through June, about two weeks since Edward had gone back to the mansion. Not a day passed by when he didn't think about Kim. He'd talked to her, actually had a conversation! He didn't bring it up to anyone, though, because it would have been the same conundrum all over again. In addition, there would be rumors that he was cheating on Jennifer, which just plain wasn't true.

Erik and Troy sat with Edward at one of the metal tables inside of the ice cream parlor. It was one of the hottest days of the summer so far, and it was the only place that provided both air conditioning and a place to hang out. As they slurped on their sundaes, Troy looked around the large seating area.

He let out a long, low whistle as a group of seniors walked by.

"Yowza. I gotta get my hands on a girl already. I mean, Erik and I are identical! How come he's got a girl and I don't?"

"Girls go for the older ones," Erik smirked. Troy glared at him, not even bickering about it. This was a debate they'd had forever.

"What's up, Ed? Why aren't you talking?" Erik asked. Edward looked up from his chocolate ice cream and back to his friends.

"Thinkin' bout Jen, right? Why, if I had her, I'd-"

Erik and Edward both smacked Troy at his comment. "Geez, sorry," he muttered.

"I don't know what's up, really. Guess I'm just tired from our time out last night." Lie.

Erik and Troy rolled their eyes and said, "Whatever" at the same time.

Edward adjusted the collar of his leather jacket, thinking. He knew what could make himself feel better.

"I have something to show you guys."

The three boys rode their bicycles across town until they got to the mansion again. The path was now familiar and routine to him. They dropped off their bikes and went through the small opening. The whole time, however, the twins wouldn't stay quiet.

"Wow! How did we never think about coming here before?"

"In broad daylight? I mean..."

"Ouch! Don't step on my foot!"

"That wasn't me! Stop steppin' on your own feet!"

Edward grunted in frustration. His friends could be a real pain in the ass sometimes.

By the time they reached the top of the hill, Erik and Troy were still arguing. Edward turned around, angrily yet quietly, and said, "Shut up. We're about to go inside, and I can't have you guys like this. You need to behave." He realized he sounded like an adult as soon as he said it.

"You're seriously going in there? You're out of your mind," Erik criticized.

"Yeah. There's no way I'm going in."

Edward exhaled with annoyance. "It'll be fine. Believe me, it's worse when it's dark. But it's the middle of the fucking afternoon, and going inside a house won't kill you."

The brothers exchanged questioning looks. They tried to remain cool.

"Okay," shrugged Troy.

Erik did the same. "Whatever."

Slowly, they walked inside the dark house. Erik and Troy stood flabbergasted at the sight of the pictures, but Edward just kept on walking. The sense of familiarity he was earning put a smile on his face.

"Come on, guys! It just gets better upstairs!"

The boys returned back to their calm, cool aura.

"Okay."

"Whatever."

As they hopped up the staircase, Edward's heart beat more and more rapidly. I can't wait for them to meet her, he thought. She'll love them. Once she sees what other Suburbian people are like, she'll surely want to -

They paused once they got to the top. Edward was still awestruck at the beauty of the masterpiece. The twins were at a complete loss of words, and Troy even fell to his knees. Edward had never seen them react this way before.

Down the aisle, Kim was visible snipping away. She must have been so involved in her work that she didn't notice them coming in.

Edward half-ran, half-skipped over to her, a stupid grin on his face. "I'm back!" He announced.

Kim jumped at the sight of him, and accidentally sliced his cheek! It stung just a little bit, but it wasn't that severe. She looked like she'd just sliced his head off.

"Sorry!" She exclaimed, still quiet. Edward dabbed his cheek. Just a little blood.

"It's fine, Kim," he assured her. It felt so great to use her name.

She smiled. "Thank you." A moment's pause.

"So anyway, um, I was wondering if you wanted to meet my friends? They're right over there..."

Erik and Troy were hardly visible. They were examining a piece of the sculpture that was shaped like a human heart.

"Guys! Over here!" Edward whistled loudly, causing Kim to twitch.

They sprinted over, their faces still motionless with amazement. They gasped loudly when they saw Kim.

Erik stood next to her, admirably. "Holy cow. Those are some fantastic gloves! How the hell did you make them?"

"Those are her hands," Edward corrected. The twins' eyes nearly popped out of their heads.

"What the -? You're a..."

"You're a..."

"She's not a monster. No monster could create such a fantastic work of art." Edward saw a small smile creep upon Kim's face. Erik and Troy still looked troubled, but they slowly started to relax.

"O-okay," stuttered Troy.

The brothers walked away, keeping an eye on Kim. They went to examine a paper replica of a convertible.

Edward smiled. "Those guys are really nice," he said. Kim nodded halfheartedly. Now that it was daylight, he could see her clearly. She was the most gorgeous redhead he'd ever seen, her hair a combination of a multitude of colors. Red, orange, blonde, brown- it was vivid against the bright light in the room. Her face was covered in scars, and she had bags under her eyes. The skin that showed was as pale as the paper around them. Kim's dark outfit was an assortment of leather, belts, and shiny buckles. And her scissorhands- by golly - could take his life away in an instant. In narrower terms, she was absolutely lovely.

"So, I was wondering... Would you want to come back to my house?"

Kim's eyes widened in surprise. Her mouth was open slightly, but no words came out.

A large tearing sound reached their attention. It came from Erik, who granted them an apologetic look.

"Sorry!" He held half of a paper woman's face in his hands. "It was an accident, I swear!"

Edward glanced back at Kim, who seemed even more uncomfortable. There was no way she would come back with him now. Still, he asked her the question.

"Well?"

Kim scanned the room, lovingly and longingly at her own work. She didn't speak much, but Edward could tell how she felt by the way her eyes softened when looking at her work. A minute later and she still hadn't responded, but Edward knew the answer. He turned around and started to -

"Yes."
