CHAPTER V

As I stepped off the examination table, I barely suppressed a groan. The whole ordeal had taken longer than I'd expected. Alphys and Sci had been thorough—too thorough. I adjusted the oversized turtleneck Ink gave me, grateful to finally have my gloves back on, and reached for my mask.

"Are you sure you're feeling fine?" Alphys asked, concern etched into her voice. Her yellow scales shimmered faintly under the lab's bright lights. She shuffled nervously with her clipboard, glancing between me and Sci. "That accelerated healing is... incredible, b-but I just want to make sure you're not overexerting yourself. Maybe we could run one more scan—"

"No," I said sharply, then softened my tone. "I mean, I appreciate your concern, but I've had enough scans for one day."

Sci adjusted his glasses, the faint glow of his pinpricks scrutinizing me. "Your brain activity is... fascinating. Twice the normal human levels. It's almost like your body is processing information at an accelerated rate or..." He trailed off, muttering something under his breath as he scribbled on his clipboard. Then he glanced up. "You sure you don't feel any headaches, dizziness, or fatigue?"

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "I'm fine, really."

Fuck no,you are stressing me out with all these questions!

"Are you positive?" Alphys pressed, leaning forward slightly. "You've been through a lot. Maybe—"

"I'm fine," I repeated, firmer this time. "Just tired. That's all."

Please stop.

Sci and Alphys exchanged a look, and I could feel their curiosity bubbling just under the surface. They weren't buying my nonchalant responses, but I wasn't about to give them the answers they wanted. Not now. Not ever.

Blue appeared in the doorway, holding my amulet. "Hey, Pyevepe! Figured you'd want this back." His cheerful tone was a lifeline in the sea of overzealous questioning.

I snatched the amulet from his hand, slipping it over my head with a sigh of relief. Its familiar weight grounded me instantly. "Thank you," I said, my tone softer than before.

"Alright, alright," Blue said with a grin, his optimism cutting through the tension in the room. "Let's get out of here, human. You look like you need some air."

I nodded, grateful for the excuse. Turning back to Alphys and Sci, I forced a small, polite smile. "Thank you for your... thoroughness."

And thank God I am getting out of here!

As Blue led me out of the lab, I couldn't help but mutter under my breath, "I'll never get used to being prodded like that."

Blue chuckled. "They mean well, ya know. Besides, if it weren't for them, Dream wouldn't've been able to patch you up properly."

I said nothing, my thoughts drifting as we walked. At least the ordeal was over, and I could finally breathe.

(Normal POV)

After the tense lab visit, the fresh air outside the Omega Timeline lab felt like a blessing. Pyevepe glanced at Blue, who was leading the way with his usual spring in his step, occasionally whistling a cheery tune. The streets weren't as bustling as she'd expected, but that didn't bother her. She was grateful for the quiet.

"Hey, look who's over there!" Blue exclaimed, pointing toward a group gathered a little way down the street. Ink was chatting animatedly with a few residents—other monsters displaced from their own universes. He looked as though he hadn't a care in the world, his paintbrush resting on his shoulder as he laughed at some joke.
