Simple to say but Jake hadn't had an easy time of it all. He has found himself in utter puppy love and rushed into things with a... less then nice young lady. And a whirlwind of physical, and emotional abuse and manipulation. Later he'd married her in the courthouse and moved in with her. but things were never good. She was emotionally abusive manipulating him with her constant threats of hurting herself which broke Jake's heart. But whenever she got angry or notably jealous she'd snap and begin to throw things at him, kick him, punch him, and threaten far worse. Many nights he'd spend being given the silent treatment while he bandaged bruises. But he stayed because he loved Elsa and he couldn't bare the idea she'd do something drastic.

That was until Jake best friend of the last nine years, Y/n one day finally snapped and asked questions about his constant injuries.

Jake broke and told her everything, and needless to say Y/n ushered him out of there like a knight in shinning armour. Jake was currently living with Y/n in her house. Far from Elsa and their old apartment. She was very sweet and very gentle with him as he was understandably very traumatised and full to the brim with anxiety barely even able go out shopping without clutching Y/n's hand in fear. They'd have a few run-ins with Elsa and they'd never been pleasant at times downright horrific to the extent of police being involved. Jake had filed for a divorce but the process would be long and difficult as Elsa refused to give in, Y/n as his lawyer had even managed to get him a restraining order even if Elsa often ignored it. But for now, he was safe, and actually getting to enjoy himself a little as they prepared for Christmas.

Elsa never let him do anything more than get halfway through a Christmas movie before going into one of her moods. But Y/n gave him full reign to decorate, blast Christmas music, and watch whatever he wanted. So of course the house looked like an absolute Christmas grotto but he was happy so Y/n didn't mind. Christmas had started to become his safe place and a way to find comfort and stability after everything that had happened. the town he'd been working on had become a kind of soothing piece of mind for him. a thing he could focus on to stop his thoughts drifting to other places

Jake stood humming along the festive music playing while hanging lights for the third Christmas tree inside the house. While Y/n was making cookies, as she was baking she accidentally dropped the bowl on the counter making a loud banging.

Which immediately put Jake into fight or flight. Jake's body tensed and he froze up in his spot and as he stood there like a statue he looked around her alarmed and anxious.

"It's okay, it's okay, I'm sorry Jakie. It slipped out of my hand. But it's all okay." She gently told him as if speaking to a spooked animal as she slowly picked up the bowl and set it gently down on a kitchen towel to muffle its sound, "You alright?"

"I... I'm... I'm o-okay..." he muttered as he shakily went to place down the lights he was hanging and he tried to slow down his breath as his heart raced fast inside his chest. He looked over at her and tried to give her a calm smile but his hands were shaking ever so slightly and he was clearly struggling to hold it together,

"I'm so sorry Jakie," Y/n said gently making sure not to raise her voice offering her arms in her flour-dusted apron in case he needed to hold her.

he let out a quiet sigh and he immediately went to her, wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug. he held onto her tight as he buried his face into her shoulder and he just took in shuddering breaths. he mumbled something incoherent into her but by the sound of it he was apologising,

"Sh sh sh..." She cooed stroking his blonde hair, "It's okay, it was an accident everything is fine. Nothing broken. No one's hurt. It's all alright. You're safe." Y/n reassured him "It's all okay..."
