Prologue

Sometimes, when you love somebody, it's hard to realize that they're anything short of perfect. And when the person that you love hurts you in some way, you feel an array of new emotions. You feel confused about whether you deserved to be hurt that way. You start to question if you did something wrong to provoke their aggression.

When it becomes a constant thing, all too often, you fall victim to their behavior. You start to accept it, making it a way of life. You deal with the pain because of comfort and what you feel is true love underneath all of that anger and jealousy.

They may hurt you with their words. They may hurt you physically. They may do everything to manipulate your decisions and damage your fragile psyche. In their eyes, you are delicate...and that just means you are weak enough to be broken and put together again, able to be controlled and molded into their play thing.

Time and time again, they hurt you. They treat you like a rag doll, an object that can be placed in the corner and forgotten for a little bit of time; then picked back up to be spoiled and loved and cared for, but only to be thrown back into the corner once more.

It is a vicious cycle, a seemingly endless one. However, this is a cycle that can end, if you let it end. But first, as the victim, you must realize that you deserve so much better in life. The person you love may love you, but that doesn't mean that you deserve to be hurt because of their incapability to truly treasure your worth.

The abusers are victims as well. They are victims of their past experiences, their present beliefs, and their thoughts about future occurrences. They are cowards when it comes to facing reality and all of its horrific rawness, its truth, and its inevitable negativity. They can't control the rest of the world. So instead, they lash out on the one person they know they can control, the one whom they love with all their heart.

But when it comes to saving yourself, you must push love aside. The world may fill your head with stories about how love can change a person for the better. But when love turns into a nightmare, you must learn to wake up on-command and walk away. Actually, run away. Run away, escape from the monster that dares to control you. They need help, and you want to give it to them. But you can't do that if it's too late.

You need help, too.

...And it's about time you got it...
