Chapter Three
"We should all do this again, like, really soon. Whenever we all have open schedules," Callie suggested.
We all walked out of the diner and congregated by the parking lot.
"There's the Neon Lights Festival in a couple weeks," I said, "We should all go."
"What's the Neon Lights Festival?" Kona asked.
"Have you been living under a rock?" Wesley scoffed.
"No, just out of town," Kona said.
"They started it last year," Callie explained. "It's downtown. Live music, random booth games, and all the local restaurants are blacked out and basically lit up like an arcade. It's all glow-in-the-dark and just super fun."
"It sounds a bit trippy, but I'm down," Kona answered.
Wesley's phone started vibrating.
"I need to take this," he told me. "I'll meet you in the truck." We watched him walk across the parking lot to his Dodge before we continued talking.
"Do you have work tomorrow?" Callie asked me.
"I actually have a 9-5 shift tomorrow," I said.
"Maybe we can meet up afterwards. Just you and me," she said.
"And me, if you guys decide to stop by for coffee," Kona added. "I work until 6."
"Wesley's working tomorrow."
"Since when do you need to bring Wes with you all the time? And you know he has his own crew," Callie laughed.
"Max and the guys," I said annoyed.
"For real, I should hang out with you two. I need to catch up on things," Kona stated.
"Didn't you guys spend the whole day together yesterday? Wasn't that enough time to catch up?" Callie laughed.
"It wasn't even a whole day; it was a few hours."
"A few hours, exploring the city," Kona said. "We had fun."
"Mia!" Wesley screamed across the parking lot.
"Just text me, guys," I said. "We'll meet up."
"Oh, and Mia," Callie grabbed me by the wrist, "Remember what I said in the bathroom. Tell me if—"
"I will, Callie. I will."
"Girl talk, I see. Alright, keep me out of the loop," Kona said.
"Mia!" Wesley yelled again.
"I need to go."
I ran to the truck and he stabbed his key into the ignition. Wesley didn't even let me close my door all the way before pulling out of the parking space.
"What is wrong with you?" I asked, putting my seatbelt on.
"You can't just say a quick bye and leave?"
"I was having a quick last minute conversation with them. Chill out."
"Don't tell me to chill out; you know I hate that."
"Well, you should."
"Mia, what were you guys talking about anyway?"
"Making coffee plans with Callie," I answered. "Now, subject topic off of me. Why are you so angry? Who was on the phone?"
"You know Brady, my project partner at work. Well, he lost my fucking presentation slides. I have to do that shit all over again within the next two days or I am screwed."
