I crawl forward on wobbly paws, the hunger gnawing at my insides with relentless intensity. The world around me is a blur—trees, distant lights, and stretches of shadowy terrain blend together as my vision wavers.
Finally, the system decides to bless me with its oh-so-precious mission information.
"Oh, perfect timing," I mutter sarcastically in my head.
The moment the transfer begins, my mind is hit with a flood of data, so overwhelming it feels like my brain is being stuffed with an entire library. My head spins, a dizzying swirl of hunger and information overload.
As the haze clears, the world’s details crystallize in my mind, vivid and almost too real.
This is Hestonisia, a land where humans aren’t the only sentient beings. Spirits exist here, though their presence has faded into myth and legend.
Once, spirits ruled from behind the curtains, unseen yet revered. The humans of that time, known as priests, lived in a world intertwined with the spirits, worshipping them and offering tributes to maintain the balance. But times have changed. Humanity has grown complacent, skeptical, and irreverent. The bond between humans and spirits has fractured, and now the two live apart, as though they belong to separate realms.
To most, spirits are nothing more than ancient stories, relics of a forgotten past.
But here’s the truth: spirits are real, born under extraordinary circumstances. When a human performs a deed so monumental that they are overwhelmed by the blessings and gratitude of the masses, their mortal body can no longer contain it. From that overflow of energy, a spirit is born—a being of immense power and infinite knowledge.
Yet, for all their wisdom, spirits are born into solitude. They have no families, no shared bloodlines. Each spirit is utterly unique, their appearance shaped by the essence of their creation. Just as no two humans are identical (save for twins), no two spirits are ever the same. And interestingly, there are no twins among spirits. Ever.
This world… it’s unlike anything I’ve encountered before. A society at odds with its own forgotten truths. Humans who have turned their backs on the divine forces that once walked among them.
And I’m stuck here. As a kitten.
Fantastic.
Ferrari was a spirit of light and life, gifted with the rare and precious ability to heal. It was a simple power, yet so coveted that it set her apart from the rest. She wasn't just any spirit-she was poised to become the next Chieftain, a position of unmatched authority among her kind.
Her life seemed perfect. She had a bright future, loyal supporters, and most of all, Ulso -a fellow spirit who was her lover, confidant, and newly minted fiancé. The announcement of their engagement sent ripples of joy through their community, a union that promised unity and strength.
But appearances can be deceiving.
Not long after their engagement, Ferrari's world came crashing down. Ulso, the one person she trusted above all else, turned on her in the most brutal way imaginable. He killed her.
The betrayal cut deeper than the act itself. Ulso's ambition knew no bounds-by becoming her fiancé, he had placed himself closer to the Chieftain's seat thannhe ever could have on his own. With Ferrari gone, the path to power was wide open for him.
But Ferrari's story didn't end there.
Spirits, while immensely powerful, are not invincible. Yet in her final moments, something extraordinary happened. Her soul and powers, instead of fading into the ether, passed on to an unlikely vessel—a kitten wandering innocently through the scene of her murder.
With her essence transferred, Ferrari's consciousness flickered to life within the tiny creature. She vowed revenge with every fragment of her being, determined to make Ulso pay for his betrayal.
