KAELIA NICHOLS STARED at the outfits that were laid on her bestfriends bed, lavender hart. she was picky, i mean it was her birthday after all. it was june twenty-one, her birthday and summer solstice or as they called it in outer banks, midsummers. this year, her almost stepbrother who she had grown to love, topper, was throwing her a kegger as a birthday present. now, she had to make a decision. the white dress or the bikini top and shorts. it was hard, because she wanted to look presentable but also feel comfortable throughout the night.

"kae, come on it's not that hard. just pick one." lavender sighed, observing as kaelia bit her cheek in thought.

"i think you'd look really pretty in the white dress." sarah commented, as she swung her head through the opened door.

"oh, my baby you're here!" lavender exclaimed, at the sight of one of her best friends. kaelia always asked lavender if there was something going on between her and sarah, because they where always way too flirty around each other. lavender always denied it, saying that they where only friends but kaelia knew better. kaelia didn't pay attention as lavender leapt up to hug sarah who hugged her back and laughed.

"i'm going with the white dress." kaelia decided.

"white? oh, you're going to look so pretty! i can curl your hair, we can do your make up and then after the kegger we can have a sleepover." sarah daydreamed aloud, sighing as she picked up the white dress and straightened it out.

"alright, alright!" kaelia laughed, greeting sarah.

after sarah did her curls and lavender did her make up, she looked at herself in the mirror. "i look decent." she thought to herself, as she observed herself in the mirror. kaelia always knew she was pretty, but not as pretty as lavender and sarah. she had a strained personality, she wasn't funny and she was mostly quiet. she preferred sitting out in the beach, writing songs. but, she also loved parties. she was outgoing, loud and rude when she wanted to be.

"hi, topper. you did a good job!" kaelia said, smiling as her stepbrother gave her a side hug. she observed her surroundings, noticing how he kept the ballons to a bare minimum, keeping in mind that kaelia would complain about the usage of many ballons that could float into the ocean.
