{WILDEST DREAMS}

On September 30th, 1984, at 8:07 am tears of joy streamed down Stephen and Elizabeth's faces as they stared down at their perfect baby. Richard and Emily Gilmore waited eagerly in the waiting room for their son-in-law to announce the arrival of their first grandchild.

"She's here." Stephen practically screamed at the couple permitting them to follow him into his wife's room.

As soon as they saw the bundle of blankets, Emily began to tear up and as much as Richard would deny it his eyes became glossy at the sight of the small girl.

"Oh, she is beautiful." Emily took a hazardous step forward, Elizabeth looked up beaming at her mother and gestured for her to take the girl from her arms.

Her empty arms brought her back to reality, allowing her to focus on her surroundings and someone was noticeably absent. "Lorelai couldn't come?"

At the mention of her younger daughter's name, Emily's face contorted into a scowl, "You know what your sister is like."

Things in the Gilmore family had become very strained, not long after Stephen and Elizabeth had announced that they were expecting Lorelai had discovered she was pregnant. You would think the Gilmores would be ecstatic at the prospect of two grandchildren and at Elizabeth's news they were. However, Elizabeth was 24, married to a lawyer and in the process of becoming an investment banker. Lorelai was 16, had no interest in getting married or planning on going to college anymore. Richard had proposed the idea that Lorelai and Christopher marry, the boy would go and work with Richard and they would raise their child in the Gilmore home until they were ready to find their own home. The youngest Gilmore didn't even consider it. The difference in their parents' reaction had caused a lot of tension between the sisters and they had barely spoken throughout their pregnancies Elizabeth had hoped it would be put aside when the babies were born, but unfortunately, this wasn't the case.

"What is her name?" Richard asked finally walking over to greet his granddaughter.

"Eloise Mary Gilmore-Livingston," Stephen replied as he gently caressed her cheek awestricken. Richard didn't reply he just smiled proudly at his eldest daughter.

...

On October 7th, 1984, at 9:45pm Emily and Richard Gilmore found themselves at Harford Memorial Hospital once again, but the emotions on their faces were worlds away from those of weeks prior. Emily stormed into the maternity ward carrying a crumpled piece of paper in her hand. As she spotted a nurse wheeling her youngest daughter on a gurney her pace quickened leaving her husband trailing behind.

"Lorelai Gilmore!" Emily shouted.

"Wheel this a little faster, please." The young brunette turned her head away from her mother in an attempt to avoid eye contact.

"Lorelai, you do not do this. You do not just leave a person a note."

"Okay, see the timing here?"

"'Dear Mom and Dad, I'm in labour. See you later, Lorelai.'" Emily read the note incredulously and shoved the piece of paper towards her daughter. Lorelai didn't reply, she leaned forward and clutched her stomach in pain.

"Emily, please, I feel ridiculous." Richard had finally joined his wife's side, he looked around at all of the people on the ward staring at them.

"You're having a baby. Do you know that, Lorelai?" Her voice almost sounded softer.
