The beeping of machines and the hushed whispers of nurses faded in and out as I drifted in and out of consciousness. The pain in my lower back was relentless, a constant reminder that my body was working tirelessly to bring my baby boy into the world. Jungkook's hand in mine was my anchor, his gentle squeezes and soft words of encouragement keeping me tethered to reality.
"You're doing so well, Ellie," he murmured, his thumb stroking the back of my hand. "He'll be here soon."
I managed a weak smile, my lips dry and cracked. "I can't wait to meet him," I rasped, my voice hoarse from the exertion. The contractions were coming more frequently now, each one a tidal wave of pain that washed over me, leaving me breathless and trembling. I squeezed Jungkook's hand tighter, digging my nails into his skin as I rode the crest of each contraction.
"Breathe, Ellie," he urged, his voice calm and steady. "Just breathe." I focused on his words, trying to regulate my breathing, but the pain was all-consuming. I felt a surge of fear, a primal instinct to flee from the overwhelming sensation.
"I can't do this," I whimpered, tears welling up in my eyes. Jungkook's grip tightened, his eyes filled with love and concern.
"Yes, you can," he said firmly. "You're strong, Ellie. You've got this." His words, his unwavering belief in me, gave me the strength to keep going. I closed my eyes, focusing on my breathing, and let the pain wash over me. Hours seemed to melt into a blur of pain and exhaustion. The nurses came and went, checking my progress, offering words of encouragement. Jungkook remained by my side, a constant source of support, wiping away my tears, and the sweat that started to form on my forehead. He also was whispering words of love and encouragement. Finally, the doctor arrived, her face creased with a smile.
"It's time, Ellie," she announced. "Are you ready to push?" I nodded, a surge of adrenaline coursing through me, or it was relief that this was almost over. The pain was still there, but it was different now, overshadowed by a fierce determination to bring my baby into the world. With Jungkook's hand in mine and the doctor's guidance, I pushed with all my might. Each push was a monumental effort, my body screaming in protest, but I didn't stop. I couldn't stop. I had to meet my son. After what felt like an eternity, I heard a cry, a tiny, reedy sound that filled the room. My heart swelled with a love I had never known before as I saw the doctor lift a small, wriggling bundle into the air.
"Congratulations," she beamed. "It's a boy." Tears streamed down my face as Jungkook and I gazed at our son. He was perfect, tiny and fragile, with a head full of dark hair and Jungkook's eyes.
"He's beautiful," I whispered, my voice choking with emotion. Jungkook leaned down and kissed my forehead, his eyes shining with tears.
"You did it, Ellie," he said, his voice thick with emotion.
"He's perfect." The nurses took our son to clean him up and weigh him, and Jungkook followed them, his eyes glued to our precious bundle. I lay back on the bed, exhausted but euphoric. I had done it. I had brought our son into the world. A few minutes later, they returned with our son, wrapped in a soft blanket. Jungkook gently placed him in my arms, and I held him close, marveling at the tiny miracle I had created.
"What are we going to name him?" Jungkook asked, his eyes filled with love and wonder. I looked down at our son, his tiny hand grasping my finger.
"Jason," I whispered. "Jason Jeon." I said as I looked at Jungkook. Jungkook smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
"It's perfect," he said, leaning down to kiss our son's forehead. As I held Jason close, I felt a wave of contentment wash over me. The pain of childbirth was a distant memory, replaced by the overwhelming love I felt for my son. I knew at that moment that my life would never be the same, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Jungkook didn't leave my side. He helped me get up and shower, which I did after a nap. He kept me updated on our son, letting me know all the things that happened while I slept.
Jungkook had been a whirlwind of nervous energy since the moment they'd placed our son on my chest. He'd barely slept, hovering nearby, whispering encouragement and fetching anything I needed. Now, though, he was passed out on the uncomfortable pull-out chair, dark hair falling over his forehead, the picture of peaceful exhaustion. A soft knock on the door startled me.
"Come in," I croaked, my voice rough from waking up not long ago. The door opened hesitantly, and a familiar face peeked in. Jin. Relief washed over me. "Jin!" He beamed at my calling him, his smile as warm and comforting as ever.
"Ellie! How are you feeling?" He entered, followed by a gaggle of familiar faces: Taehyung with his boxy grin, Sonja radiating nervous excitement, and Jimin, looking surprisingly unsure of himself.
