I got out of the car and my pink converse hit the gravel with a thump. I had just arrived at Harmony Academy, a school for elementals. You first started there when you were 14. Everybody here could control an element, fire, water, earth, or air, except for me. I could control all elements. I excelled at water, and my mom said that I would most likely be placed in all of the water classes.
Most people would kill to be able to control them all. Not if they knew what my life was like. I only had four real friends who didn't try to befriend me for my power.
"Come on Darby. I have a surprise for you." My mom yelled. She came out from behind our red exposition, toting my two suitcases. Her red hair flashed as it swung back and forth, before settling just below her shoulders. Her face was covered in freckles, and so was her body.
I quickly hurried to get them from her and I heard two voices arguing.
"Curtis Thomas Sanderson. Give me back my soccer ball right now." My little sister yelled.
"Not until you give me my Pokemon card back. That one is Charizard. He is my favorite." My little brother whined. They were so close in age and looks that they were close to twins.
They both had red hair, though Logan's was a little darker, they both had freckles, though Logan had a little more, and Logan was ten and Curtis was nine.
Their only difference was Logan had blue eyes and Curtis had brown.
They stormed over too us.
"Mom." They whined in unison. My mother glared at them and they quickly shut up. My brother rolled the soccer ball away and Logan dropped his Pokemon card. They quickly retrieved their things and my dad got out of the car. His naturally tanned skin and his dark brown hair were glistening with sweat. His hazel eyes glimmered with mischief.
"Come on Darby. You wouldn't want to be late to see any boys!" He bellowed. I glared at him and my cheeks heated up with embarrassment.
"Dad." I groaned. I grabbed my suitcases and started heading towards the dorms. My room was D110. I was going to have four roommates, I just didn't know who they were.
I stopped short when I came to a tall flight of stairs.
"Dad." I said as I shoved my suitcases towards him.
"Let's just take the elevator." He said quickly.
I poked my head around the corner and saw an elevator line as long as Texas.
"Let's not." I said. He frowned and grabbed my suitcases, hoisting them over his shoulders. We made our way up the stairs until we reached the fourth floor.
I walked excitedly down the hallway searching for room 110.
"107, 108, 109. Ah, there it is. 110." I murmured.
I got out the key I had been given at the front desk and unlocked the door. There were five individual beds. One of them had blue sheets with a wave pattern on them. The second one had red sheets with fire patterns on it. The third one was green and brown with a cracked pattern on it. The fourth one was white with swirly lines on it. The fifth bed, which I guessed was mine, had a swirly pattern of them all. I put my stuff on my bed and was attacked by four people.
"Darby." They squealed.
"Hi guys." I choked out. "Can't breathe." They quickly let go and I surveyed the changes in my friends.
Sarah's long blonde hair was now shorter than her shoulders. She had a few freckles across her nose. Talyn's hair was a little longer and it was pretty long. Aaliyah had started wearing makeup and her blonde hair was shoulder length. Bethany's brown hair was up in a ponytail and she was a little taller.
"Ohmigosh. You look so different." We all said at the same time. I laughed and collapsed on my bed. My blonde hair splayed out around my head like sleeping beauty. I started unpacking my suitcases and once I was done, I got out my laptop. I opened it and decided I was thirsty. I got out of bed to get a cup of water, and when I came back, I tripped over nothing.
Aaliyah looked up and shot out her hand. The water in my cup stilled and stayed in the cup, frozen. Talyn thrust out her hand a a cushion of air caught me. My cup flew out of my hand and a column of vines from Sarah's direction caught it.
I regained my balance and grabbed my cup. I went to take a sip and all of the ice stayed at the top of my cup.
I groaned and held out my cup for Bethany. Flickers of fire went up from her outstretched fingers and melted the water in my cup.
"Thanks." I said brightly, referring to all of them.
"You could have done that yourself you know." Droned Sarah.
"Yeah yeah. I have the power of the elements. I know. What else is new?"
"Actually." Aaliyah pipes up. "Did you know that the big elemental has a soulmate out there. Their soulmate had the power of all the elements but doesn't know it."
"Yeah, I know. Soulmate blah blah-" I sat up, my eyes wide. "Wait. Soulmate?!"
The wind in the room started flowing faster and faster. Talyn was the only one not affected by it.
"Darby!" My friends yelled. I snapped out of my gaze and the room stilled.
"Sorry." I cringed. When I got emotional, my powers got out of control. "But, soulmate?"
"Yeah. They can be anything. Elemental, werewolf, vampire, human, fairy." She jokes at the last one.
"I hope they aren't human, a mosquito, or a mutt." I shudder.
"You're no that lucky." Bethany scoffs. I glare at her and shoot a ball of fire at her. She deflects it with a wave of her hand.
"Ooh. Another thing." Aaliyah says excitedly. "There is a name for people like you. They're called Harmonies."%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
