Chapter Six
James sighed as he was talking to Ben while sitting in a booth at a cafe along with Ben who was also sitting on a booth in front of James and they were both eating lunch. "I don't know Ben, I mean something is going on. First we find a robber who was murdered, then two other women who were raped and killed and a young boy who was also killed. And John Wayne was wearing a tattoo on his neck, and it sounded like he could be from a gang, or he could be from a different group that's much worse than a gang," says James, before he took a bite of his BLT sandwich.
Ben swallows his food, before he speaks. "I mean, maybe someone who hates women and children?" wondered Ben.
"But what about men?" says James, after swallowing his food.
Ben nods his head and says, "I mean, it's possible. But why did this suspect kill a robber, who was a rapist, as well as two other women and a young boy?"
James swallows his food once again. He nods his head as well.
"I mean, I really just want answers by now, but, with the suspect getting rid of evidence, plus on both the rape kits on Alisha Williams and Sadie Rover doesn't show enough evidence on who raped these women, then what else could this perp possibly do, in order for us to catch him?," says James.
"I think he's getting rid of evidence because he doesn't want us to find out who he is," says Ben.
James and Ben after they have left the cafe, James and Ben were walking together downtown in New York City where there were lots of people walking past them.As they were walking they continued discussing the case of Alisha Williams, John Wayne and Sadie Rover, James and Ben had arrived at the house of Sadie Rover. James wanted to question their parents.
After arriving at Sadie Rovers house, Mrs. Rover was about to walk out of the door until she noticed James and Ben were walking up to her. "Hi Mrs. Rover, I'm Detective Harrison and this my partner Detective Diemaet," says James as he shows his NYPD detective badge to Mrs. Rover.
"We would like to speak with you and your husband, Mr. Rover," says James.
Mrs. Rover sighed. "I'm sorry I'm late for a meeting, what is this about," says Mrs. Rover.
"We wanted to talk to you about your daughter, Sadie Rover," answered James.
"Were you able to find her? I hadn't heard anything about her in six months. Is she okay," says Mrs. Rover, sort of panicking.
"Oh my gosh. Honey!" says Mrs. Rover as she shouted.
"Honey?" shouted Mrs. Rover, once again.
"Mrs. Rover," says James.
Mrs. Rover says, "yes?" Mrs. Rover looks at James.
James sighed. He didn't know how to tell Mrs. Rover that her daughter has been murdered. It all of a sudden had hit him that he was afraid to tell Mrs. Rover, Sadie's mother, who has been worried sick for months wondering what happened to her daughter, and James just froze before he could even speak. Ben decides to tell Mrs.Rover in a sympathetic voice that Sadie has been killed.
Mrs. Rovers eyes widened and she dropped on the floor, crying. "No!! My baby!!" shouted Mrs. Rover. Mr. Rover saw his wife was on the ground crying and screaming. Mr. Rover immediately ran up to Mrs. Rover, his wife, and he leaned on his knees and he grabbed Mrs. Rover by the arm in a gentle gesture and Mrs. Rover had cried into Mr. Rovers arms.
It really bothered James that he had to tell other parents that their child had been murdered. No matter how old, Mrs. Rover always looked at Sadie as her child. She birthed her. She carried her for nine months in her pregnancy.
Ben looked at James and he could tell it was really bothering him that Mrs. Rover found out her daughter had been murdered. James closed his eyes and he sighed. James opened his eyes after keeping them close for a couple seconds.
"I'm really sorry for your loss," says Ben, glancing at Mr. and Mrs. Rover.
James rubbed his eyes with his fingers and he had to turn around and walk away. Ben turned around and he followed James as they headed back downtown in New York City.
Until James walked up to one of the buildings and he leaned against it. He was panicking. Until James then started to feel like he was gonna throw up, and James bent over and he puked on the ground. James coughed, gags and throws up once again. James coughed after he threw up the second time. Ben walked up to James to check on him, and wondered why his partner got sick.
James gags again. James spits onto the ground after he throws up.
"Hey brother, are you all right?" wondered Ben.
James (while still bending over facing the ground) nods his head yes. James wipes his mouth with his hand. As James stood back up and Ben took his hand and gently touched James's back.
James took a deep breath and sighed. Ben puts his arm back down after touching James's back and he continues looking at James still wondering why James had thrown up. "I've never seen you get sick after telling someone that they'd lost someone," says Ben.
James nods his head. "Yeah, um, I just..." James stops talking for a moment. James sighed. "Did something trigger you while I told Mrs. Rover that her daughter is dead," wondered Ben.
"Yeah. I don't know why. I mean, I just. I guess it bothered me so much that it made me nauseous and threw up," says James, sighing.
"Hey. You're a detective, it's hard telling people that someone they loved has been killed. I guess it hit you the hardest when you found out about Sadie's death. But when you told Ms. Wayne, John Wayne's mom, that her son had been killed, it was hard for you to tell her too, but you told her anyway," says Ben.
"Yeah," says James, in a low voice.
Ben nods his head. "Alright. Let's go back to the station," says Ben. James nods his head and he and Ben both start heading back to downtown New York City, and are heading back to the station.
