The rest of the trip was silent. I tried reaching out with my lekku to sense the others in the carrier. A trooper next to me was nervous. He kept glancing at Kanan and I as if we would jump him. Kallus still had some adrenaline, but mostly he was stuck up with pride. I didn't even need the lekku for that, the smug smile on his face told me as much. The Inquisitor was a wall. I couldn't feel anything. I reached out more to feel, using the force to help my abilities.
"Stop trying, Nautolan." His words made me stop and stare at him. No one had been able to tell before.
"Approaching the destroyer," the pilots announced. I looked ahead out the window and saw a star destroyer in front of us.
"Great," I muttered.
"Hey, maybe it'll be fun." Kanan was back to putting up his carefree front. "I'll bet you get the cell with the holonet."
I rolled my eyes before playing along. "How many credits is that bet?"
"Eh, let's say five."
"I'm a bit short. Hey, Kallus, spot me five credits?" Kallus shot me a dirty look. "Guess not. Sorry, Kanan, can't take the bet."
The shuttle touched down inside the destroyer's bay. A trooper turned me to face the door and shoved me forward as it opened.
"Hey, easy, pal," Kanan warned him from behind.
"Take them to detention block one,," Kallus commanded the troopers before he walked off.
"What, no goodbye?" I called out before I was shoved again. The Inquisitor followed Kallus, but we were led to a different door. Down hallways and past cells we were marched. Kanan was put in his cell, then the troopers opened another one and pushed me inside. I fell down the stairs and ended up laying on the metal floor. The door snapped shut.
"Nice to meet you, too," I muttered as I picked myself up and sat over on the bench. I passed my time playing with the force and trying to unlock my binders with it, but it was to no avail. They stayed locked shut on my wrists for hours. "Note to self: Have Ezra teach me how to pick locks."
My eyelids began to droop shut finally when the door opened and two troopers entered to grab me.
"Where are we going, now?" I asked them, but there was no response. We just marched down the halls in silence until we reached another door that opened. I was led into an interrogation chamber, and my lekku received an onslaught of information. Kanan was strapped down in the middle of the room, exhausted, but he still had his playful smile. What hit me the hardest was the frustration coming from the Inquisitor and Tarkin's disapproval. Neither of them smiled back at Kanan. Kallus stood toward the back of the interrogation chamber with his arms crossed.
"Oh, did I miss the party? Sorry, I wasn't aware I was invited," I taunted the imperials as the troopers held me in place in the room. The door snapped shut again, leaving us secluded in the dark room. The Inquisitor came close and studied my face silently.
"Zinea Fisto, daughter of Kit Fisto and Aayla Secura," Kallus read coldly from his tablet. "Twenty-six years old. You are another Jedi, then?"
"No, I'm just here for shits and giggles."
"Another smart-mouthed one. Is this a common trait in Jedi?" the Inquisitor snarled at Kanan.
Suddenly, an onslaught of pressure pushed against my skull. I felt pins digging into my scalp as I screamed. I shook my head, trying to free myself from it. Just as suddenly, it stopped. I hung my head in shock and exhaustion.
"Now, master Jedi, you will tell me where to find your rebel friends."
"Nea-" Kanan started.
"Where are they?"
"Don't," I begged Kanan. "I'm not worth it. One life against thousands." The Inquisitor raised his hand at me again and pain rippled through my skull. One moment, I thought my scalp was being torn off, and the next my face felt as though it was held over a fire. The sensation spread down into my body. My breathing stopped as my airway was cut off and I felt as though I had millions of bruises on my chest. I groaned, trying and failing to bite back the pain.
"Stop it!" Kanan yelled, yanking at his restraints.
"Tell us!" Kallus demanded, but Kanan stayed silent.
The sensation ceased, and I gasped for air. I felt a finger under my chin, lifting it up. My eyes opened to see the Inquisitor staring right in them.
"Ugly, isn't she? But I suppose for a Nautolan she is quite attractive. I prefer her when she looks in pain, though. There is a certain art to it."
I spat in his face. "Pretend to be smug as much as you'd like. I can feel you growing more and more frustrated."
He reached up to wipe his face and calmly stepped back. "Perceptive. Perhaps you can help alleviate my frustration. I ask you the same question: Where are the rebels?"
The machinery around Kanan moved and two probes pointed at him from the side. The inquisitor raised his hand, causing electricity to course through Kanan's body. His screams echoed in my ears.
"No!" I screamed, lunging up to hit the Inquisitor, but Kallus grabbed me and held me back. "Stop! We don't know about other rebels!" Sobs wracked through me, but I didn't say another word. Kanan's screams began to get quieter.
Tarkin stepped forward. "The Jedi are no good to me dead." The Inquisitor let the torture go on for another moment, then relented. Kanan's screams turned into groans as he felt relief hit him.
"His resistance is impressive," the Inquisitor observed.
Tarkin looked thoughtful. "Yes, he does possess the will of a Jedi of old."
"And yet neither of them have said anything helpful." Kallus released me, finally.
"Is it possible that they do not know of any other rebels to speak of?" The Inquisitor's eyes drifted to me once again.
"Perhaps. I recommend that we transfer them from Lothal to another location. One that never fails to extract a confession."
"Yes, Grand Moff Tarkin. I will put in the order to transfer the prisoners to the Mustafar system." Kallus grabbed me once again and led me out of the interrogation chamber.
"You must know Mustafar, yes? Or did you run away far enough to escape the news of it?"
"I'm not a coward. I was a child."
"You're the daughter of a Jedi council member, just how did you escape? Did you hide under the bed while your mother was shot down by troopers?"
I twisted out of his grip, body checked him into the wall, and kneed him in between his legs. "Don't you say a damn thing about my parents!" I felt the gloved hand of a trooper yank me off of Kallus before a stunning ray knocked me out.
