Kai POV (just when he closed the door to Lloyd's room)
I click the door closed and make my way to the kitchen to try and find Zane. Most often, he was in the kitchen, making breakfast for the gang. I walk inside.
"Hey Zane, what kind of illness can make someone faint?" I ask him
"Well, a cold or flu, paired with lack of food and/or water can cause dizziness, and in extreme cases, fainting. Why do you ask?" He answered.
"Just curious" I reply, deciding to talk to Lloyd about it later. I don't want everyone to know about Lloyd's potential bad eating habits.
"Well, thanks Zane!" I wave, and leave to go find sensei, to tell him that Lloyd is not going to be available for training today. I walk by the library, when I hear movement coming from inside. I stick my head in to see what's happening. I spot sensei Wu rummaging through scrolls in one end of the room.
"Hey sensei, about training today-" I start.
"No training, its cancelled! I've got some things to do..." he then started to mutter about something that sounded like 'coalescence', and 'coming too soon' but I wasn't really paying attention. No training means another day off! Maybe I'll invite Lloyd to come into Ninjago City with me... no, I'll just let him sleep.
30 minutes later, I am out of my ninja gi and in civilian clothes, and wandering the streets, looking for the new arcade that opened up. After 10 minutes of (unsuccessful) searching, I walk by Chen's Noodle House. My stomach rumbles. Maybe just a quick snack break...
I enter the shop, and the bell rings, signalling my arrival.
"Welcome to Chen's- oh, Kai!" I get warmly embraced by Skylor.
"Hi, Skylor! Just popping in for a snack break" I say.
"Isn't it your training day?" She asks.
"Weird that you know that... but yeah, it is. Wu cancelled because he is looking through some old scrolls. Anyway, could I get a couple plates of Puffy Potstickers?" I ask.
"Of course! I'll join you at your table in a bit," said Skylor. I nod, and take a seat at a booth. I start to wonder how Lloyd is doing, so I take out my phone, and try to call him. It rings out, and I assume he is still asleep. I check the time, 12:30pm. Wow, I didn't realise it was afternoon!
I get snapped out of my thoughts as Skylor sat next to me, holding two steaming plates of my order. I didn't see why she had to sit next to me, when there was a seat right across the table. I know she has a crush on me, and I had one on her at the island, but that all changes when she betrayed us. I've told her multiple times that I don't want to be anything more than friends, but she just won't listen. I squirm uncomfortably.
"So, how's your day been?" asked Skylor leaning a bot closer to me. I shy away from her.
"Oh, you know, normal" I reply, taking a puffy potsticker from the plate.
"Anyone try to... get together with you?" she asks.
"Besides from you, no" I mutter.
"Pardon?" she said, ever closer.
"I said, no!" I repeat. She leans in. I am basically against the wall now.
"Good" she says. And then she kisses me. I am confused for a second, and then realise what's happening. I push her off me.
"WHAT THE HELL, SKYLOR!?" I scream. People look at us, but I don't care. I'm standing now.
"I SAID I AM NOT INTO YOU!!! WHAT PART DO YOU NOT GET?!!" I shout.
"I just- I just thought-" she stuttered.
"Thought what, Skylor? That it would be okay for you to FREAKING KISS ME WITHOUT MY CONSENT?" I start to stomp off, but feel a hand on my shoulder. I shove it in. I reach the door, and I turn around.
"Don't try to talk to me, ever again Skylor. We are done." I slam the door shut, leaving the restaurant in shocked silence. I feel tears prick my eyes. Why did she have to ruin our friendship? I mean, technically I did, but she kissed me!
I wipe the tears from my face and walk across the road, ignoring the incoming call from Skylor. I head into the store, and purchase a packet of cigarettes.
Why, you ask? Well, I need an escape from reality, even if it is just for a little while. I started smoking a few years back, when Lloyd was badly hurt in battle, and we didn't know if he would recover. I was all my fault, even though everyone said it wasn't. I was not looking, and he got stabbed, right through the stomach. I promised to protect him, and I wasn't there for him. I failed.
I exit the store, and notice the sun is setting. I sigh. I don't feel like going to the main park, so I head to small one I discovered one time, when we were on a mission (a story for another time). I get lost (why does this keep happening to me?), and only find the park with the help of my phone. By the time I get there, it's dark and nobody is around. Good. I get out the packet and pull one cigarette out, and use my powers to light it on fire. I breathe it in slowly, when I notice that person from the park, Llaynie, standing next to me. I jolt. It's impossible to sneak up on a ninja, but somehow they did it. I stutter.
"Wh-what? How?"
"What do you mean? Also, why are you smoking?" they said as if nothing just happened. They sit down next to me.
"You sneaked up on a ninja!" I reply, eyeing them, and notice their bandages. I grab their wrist. "Llaynie, what are these from?" They wince. My eyes widen. "Llaynie-"
"Don't. Just... don't" they look away from me.
"You know that self-harm can kill you, right?" I say.
"And smoking doesn't?!?" they replied savagely. I wince again.
"It's just that... this girl that likes me, even though I've told her that my heart belongs to someone else, kissed me today. I ended out friendship." I feel my tears resurface, but it's as if a big weight has just been lifted from my shoulders "But, what can you do, right?" I take another long inhale of my cigarette.
"Skylor did WHAT?!?" Laynie shouted.
"Wait, how do you know it was her?" I demand.
"O-oh, I know her." They said quickly. I narrow my eyes.
"Keep your secrets. But why are you cutting yourself, Llaynie?" I say.
"It's just.. I'm a freak, but nobody knows, they all think I am this great person, and the person I love doesn't fell the same." they said, biting their lip.
"Your not a freak!" I reply
"Hah. Says the human. I'm part oni and part dragon. No one would want me the way that I am."
"That's not true! I want to be friends with you!" I replied. "Now, about your crush-"
"Uh-uh, that's all your getting out of me!" Llaynie playfully shoved my shoulder.
Simultaneously, we get notifications. I take out my phone, and notice it's from Wu, and urgent, just stating, 'GET TO THE MONESTARY!'
"Got to go!" me and Llaynie say at the same time. We both stand up.
"Catch you later, then." I say.
"Likewise!" Llaynie said, and rushed off. I stared at their retreating figure, and hurried to my motorcycle, and rode off into the night.
