After eating the food while chatting with the parents – who apparently recognized Lan Wangji and even asked for his signature – they expressed their condolences and to let them know if they could help with anything and Lan Wangji appreciated their offer.
He was actually not a people person, but somehow he could feel their sincerity and feel at ease with their generosity.
Time went by so fast and it was already in the afternoon when one by one the parents excused themselves to go back home, and Lan Wangji was about to do the same when suddenly Wei Wuxian asked to speak to him privately.
“Mr. Lan, do you mind if we speak for a while?”
Lan Wangji nodded and asked Xiao Yuan to play with Jingyi before he followed Wei Wuxian toward the sitting room.
“Is there anything I can help you with?” Lan Wangji asked Wei Wuxian, but the latter looked nervous so he gave him the time to compose himself.
“Well, here’s the thing… It’s actually Jingyi’s birthday tomorrow, and he insisted on asking Xiao Yuan to go with him to the amusement park with him. All expenses paid by the way, Xiao Yuan only has to come and we will have fun together, so I want to ask for your permission, Mr. Lan.”
Amusement park?
Lan Wangji thought about when was the last time he and his brother took Xiao Yuan to the amusement park and couldn’t remember when.
It might be a good thing to bring Xiao Yuan to a happy place where he could play just like a child with his best friend. Besides, he needed all the help he could get from anyone who was willing to help, and he had a good feeling about Wei Wuxian.
He took his time to answer while remembering his schedule for tomorrow when he finally smiled.
“We would love to go to the amusement park with you.”
Wei Wuxian was almost blinded by the handsomeness of the man in front of him, when he caught himself and smiled back.
“That’s great! We should meet in front of the amusement park at 9 so that we can have all day to play inside. What do you think?”
“It’s a date then.”
Wei Wuxian inexplicably blushed at the word date, even though he didn’t know why.
Sure, Lan Wangji was a very handsome man, and he was rich, but he should not have any more thoughts about him especially since his brother had just passed away and he was taking care of his nephew.
Hell, maybe he had a girlfriend that he stashed somewhere beyond the paparazzi’s eyes.
But anyway, this was about Jingyi and his birthday, so he cleared his throat and grounded himself back to reality.
“Here’s my contact number. You can reach me there if you have any questions about cooking or anything else.” Wei Wuxian gave Lan Wangji his name card and Lan Wangji nodded.
“I will. Thank you and see you tomorrow.”
After Lan Wangji left with Xiao Yuan, Wei Wuxian did his usual chores up until Jingyi was asleep, and then he opened up his laptop to search for Lan Wangji.
The results were overwhelming.
It was not surprising since Lan Wangji was a gifted musician and he sold a lot of his albums, even though they were just instrumental and no one could even see his face.
But Wei Wuxian could see his long and veiny fingers on top of the guqin, and he gulped once, then twice, before he finally turned down his laptop.
“That’s enough for today.” He mumbled to himself before he poured a glass of his favorite Emperor’s Smile liquor and enjoyed a few glasses of the strong alcohol.
It was almost dawn when he finally slept the dreamless sleep, unlike so many nights before when his insomnia flared and he woke up for days at a time – and it caused him to oversleep the next day.
Thankfully it was Saturday and the weather was nice and sunny – perfect weather to go on an excursion to the amusement park.
“Happy birthday Jingyi, my little boy!” He woke up Jingyi and kissed the boy before he pushed him into the bathroom to take a shower and brushed his teeth.
Jingyi already prepared the clothes that he wanted to wear and after a quick look, Wei Wuxian nodded and ran to the bathroom himself to take a shower and brushed his teeth – plus an extra strong mouthwash to clear the smell of alcohol from the night before.
He himself opted for simple jeans, black top with a red cap and a pair of black sneakers, and also his black sling bag made out of recycled material.
Wei Wuxian quickly moved to the kitchen to prepare a light breakfast for Jingyi and a cup of strong black coffee for himself – while he also made lunch and put them all inside a vintage wooden picnic basket, complete with cutleries and also an extra ice box to store fruit juices and beer bottles.
Jingyi was so excited that he jumped around the house and almost broke Wei Wuxian’s prized crystal vase, when finally he finished packing and put everything inside his red open top jeep and drove directly to the amusement park for a day of fun.
With Lan Wangji.
