I knew he loved her from the very beginning. How he searched her face to figure out what she was feeling. They comfort each other. When Gale got very sick, Katniss stayed by him side.
I am pretending to be asleep. I think about what he said to me. How he said her smile lite up her face. And Katniss is very beautiful. But I have never seen her smile. I wonder if that's what Gale is talking about. No. Maybe. I don't know. Maybe her smile made him feel safe. Like it was going to be ok. My thoughts are inturupted when I hear shuffling from the couch. It was Gale. He was crying and holding on to her tight. I wanted to go to him. But I knew my son. I knew he just wanted to be alone. He stroked her hair delicately. He rocked her back and forth. The tears never stopped falling.
