Ah. Early Monday mornings. The beginning of the week’s activities for some and for others…

“Mendokusei!”

The end of a relaxing weekend. I was holding a bag of groceries in one arm and the other was up to my face shielding my grin from my boyfriend’s eyes. He had been woken up extra early today by his mother and decided he would follow me home. It didn’t bother me, this usually happened on Monday mornings, he would come round my house, eat some lunch then sleep on my couch for the rest of the day. He shifted his own bag of groceries around in his arms and looked at me skeptically.

“What are you laughing about Onna?”

I shook my head and tried to suppress the smile on my face.

“Nothing Shika-Kun, it’s just always funny to watch you sulk on Monday mornings”

He snorted and pulled his out his copy of my flat key. I had no idea how he got that, and whenever I asked I always got told that he might need it. But so far all he had used it for was sneaking into my flat at random times and scaring the hell out of me when I found him. We both took are shoes off and placed the shopping bags on the kitchen counter. I began to unpack everything and watched as he yawned and walked into the living room. Monday had become so routine. Shikamaru would get bored at some point during the day and hunt me down. I wasn’t a ninja so he didn’t have to go far. I worked at the tea store 5 days a week and if I wasn’t there I was either at home or at the book store.

I leaned back and saw him lazing on the couch as usual; I finished packing everything away and walked into the living room. He was laying spread out over my couch with one arm over his eyes snoring lightly. I shook my head, why did I choose to have such a lazy boyfriend. Most girls wanted a exciting man, someone who was willing to be spontaneous and surprise them. But Shikamaru was pretty much the opposite. I turn back into the kitchen and put on my apron. I started chopping up the vegetables for lunch and boiling water on the stove. I used to wonder why I went out with and it didn’t take me too long to realize that I would never be able to handle anyone else. All the guys were too high strung in their own ways.

Naruto was fun to be around but spending too much time around someone that hyper active I thin would eventually annoy me.

Sasuke wasn’t even an option. He was too brooding and sulky for my taste, and nearly every other girl in the village had a thing for him.

Neji to me was just a jackass.

With Lee it was simply that…Well I had never been one to judge on peoples looks and he was really nice and all but come on. Green spandex, a bowl cut and a very bad exercise addict.

Kiba and Shino shared pretty much the same reason. I didn’t like animals. Bugs or anything else.

I liked Chouji well enough but I enjoyed cooking as a hobby and with him it would probably turn into a 24 hour job.

I pulled the meat out of the over and started to drain the vegetables. That pretty much left Shikamaru. I had spent some time thinking about it when he first asked me out. I think what I liked most about him was that despite his IQ being over 200 he was simple. He had simple tastes, in what he ate, in what he did. He was perfectly happy sitting down somewhere and being content with just sitting there. I bent down to pull some plates out of the cupboards and turned to place them on the table.

I nearly jumped out of my skin clutching the plates to my chest. Shikamaru was leaning against the wall with is arms over his chest watching me. I put the plates on the table and raised a hand to my chest trying to slow down my breathing.

“jeez Shikamaru you scared me! How long have you been standing there?”

He smirked at me and shrugged.

“A few minutes”

I tsked at him and spread the two plates out. I started dishing the meat out and gave the vegetables a good shake to get rid of all the water. I could still feel his eyes digging into my back, I put the drainer down turned to him again.

“ok what is it Shikamaru!? Why are you staring at me?!”

I put his hands behind his head and sighed looking away.

“Mendokusei. Don’t yell at me Onna”

I narrowed my eyes at him.

“well then why are you staring at me?”

He was still looking away but I swear I could see a faint blush on his cheeks. He looked me up and down and scratched his cheek. This was a rare occasion Shikamaru was really ever bothered enough to be uncomfortable. I started tapping my foot waiting for a response. He sighed.

“Mendokusei! Fine. You. You look like a house wife.”

He huffed and walked back into the living room plopping himself on the couch. I looked down at what I was wearing. It was a simple kimono and a apron so I didn’t spill anything. I shook my head and adjusted the plates on the table. I wiped my hands clean on the apron and walked into the living room. He had gone back to sleep and was half hanging off the couch. I stood in front of the end and placed my hand on his cheek.

“Shikamaru. Wake up, lunch is ready”

He snorted a little and opened his eyes. He turned red and jumped up nearly falling over. I giggled at him and walked back into the kitchen, he followed slowly muttering Mendokusei a few times. We both sat down and started eating. I put my head in my hand and just stared at him with a smirk on my face. He stopped looked up from his food and raised an eyebrow.

“Mendokusei, What now?”

I leaned forward and played with a strand of my hair. He looked worried and started eating faster. Probably hoping to get away quicker and sleep. I gave him a big innocent smile.

“So do you think I would make a good wife?”

His eyes widened and he started choking on his food. I started laughing as he fell backwards on his chair. I could hear him thumping on his own chest trying to loosen the piece of meat stuck in his throat. I managed to stifle my giggling and walked over to him. He was breathing deeply and his face was bright red.

“my, my Shikamaru. You’ve gone so red.”

If it was even possible his face turned a darker shade.

“That’s cause I was choking on your damn food!!”

That made me laugh again.

“Sure it is. Shikamaru-Kun. Whatever you say.”
