Riki found his way into my bed on more nights than not over the next couple of weeks. I don't mind, keeps my mind off the hunt and keeps the black wolf from my dreams. Trying to keep it from Taehun has become a full time job, though. He seems suspicious, but Riki assures me he has it under control.
"Are you coming over tonight?" I asked, flinching at the neediness in my voice.
"Uh..." he stutters and I can hear guys shouting and cheering in the background. Him and Taehun were over at a friend's house playing video games with the guys. "I don't think I can tonight."
"Why?" I asked. "You slip away from there all the time."
"I know, which is why I can't tonight. I promised I'd stay."
"But..."
"Riki! Are you coming back or not?" I heard a guy shout from behind him.
"The girls are going to be here soon." Another guy said.
"Mina, I have to go."
With that we hang up. Girls? Riki and I didn't talk about exclusivity. With the hard sell he made at trying to get me, I didn't think we had to. This shouldn't bother me. Jake dated other people when I was hooking up with him and I didn't mind. Why was this not sitting well with me, then?
Maybe it's because I had become reliant on Riki. Not just for sex, but a way to feel safe. Even on nights we didn't do anything I wanted him in my bed, feeling protected. When did my younger brother's best friend become so important in my life?
If he was out having fun with girls, I wanted to go out too. I wasn't sitting around waiting for him to change his mind, that's for sure.
"Sunoo," I said when he picked up. "Where are you? I need to get out..."
I stopped my sentence as I walked into my room to get changed to find one of the wolves sitting on my bed, a white envelope in hand.
"Mina?" Sunoo asked. "Are you there?"
"Sorry, Sunoo. I saw a mouse." I said. "Let me call you back."
The wolf looked up, revealing his tie was green. He came back. I didn't turn on the light, knowing he would flee if I did.
"Mina..." He said, standing up.
"What are you doing here?"
"I was tasked in delivering your envelope for the next challenge." He held the envelope up before dropping it on my bed. "But I wanted to see you."
"You didn't come back after that night. I waited for you..."
"I know. And I am sorry." He glanced to the side. "You seeing me like this, outside of the hunts, it's a big risk for me. I need to get into the Cloaks."
"But you helped me last hunt."
"As an apology." He nodded, taking a step toward me. "And I feared for your safety."
"What do you mean?"
"One of the wolves seemed different last hunt. Like he was out for blood or something..." He shook his head. "I don't know. I knew I had to keep you away from him."
"The black one."
"Yes. He was very upset when he thought I helped you get away from him."
"Can you tell me who he is?"
"You know I can't."
I took a couple of steps toward him and he held up his hand to stop me.
"There is far enough, Mina. If you come any closer I might not be able to control myself."
