"I feel like we haven't hung out since that party the other weekend. What ended up happening?" Sunoo asked as he leaned against the counter. The cafe is dead right now, only Jungwon and I are working. Nobody has been in for over an hour, but Jungwon refuses to let me leave until nine.
"Oh you know," I shrugged, not having come up with an excuse to tell him. "I hooked up with Jake."
That was believable. Sunoo had seen Jake at the party. Better than explaining I hooked up with Taehun's friend and continued to do so over the course of the next couple of weeks.
"Jake? Really? I thought you were done with him."
"Old habits die hard." I said, looking over my shoulder to see Jungwon packing up a box. "What's that for?" I asked him.
"Online order. They are picking it up in a minute." He brought it over and sat it beside the counter, the tag reading Lee. "I am going to be in the back doing paperwork. Sunoo, if you are going to hang around, at least grab a broom?"
"I am a paying customer!" Sunoo argued, holding up his drink he did not pay for. "And if I grab a broom you'd have to put me on the payroll."
Jungwon rolled his eyes, heading into the back.
"Any plans for the weekend?" Sunoo asked.
"I am going for a self care spa weekend." I lied. This weekend is the third hunt.
"Ooh, can I come? I need a facial."
"No." I quickly said and kicked myself for it. Had I hurt his feelings? "I mean, maybe some other time, but I really need time to myself."
"Okay..." Sunoo sounded suspicious, but didn't press the issue.
My phone dings and I pulled it out, seeing a message from Riki.
Riki: When are you going to be home?
Me: Why?
Riki: I can order dinner and have it ready for you
Me: I ate at work
Riki: Then I'll have dessert waiting for you in bed ;)
Me: I'm not going to be home until late. Don't wait for me.
"Who are you texting?" Sunoo craned his neck, trying to see my phone over the counter. I silenced it and laid it facedown behind the register.
"Nobody." I lied as my phone vibrated with a new text. I know Riki is asking questions, but I don't owe him an explanation. I needed to scope out the new location for the hunt, and try to figure out what I am going to do.
"Mr. Kim, Miss Park," Heeseung Lee said as he walked up to the counter. Sunoo stepped out of his way, bowing to him slightly as he said hello.
"This must be your online order?" I asked, picking up the togo box.
"It is. My sister-in-law is pregnant and she has been craving sugar like crazy." He took the box, smiling. "How are you? I haven't gotten the chance to check on you in class and last time we spoke you were kind of..."
"Fine." I cut him off. I hadn't told Sunoo about that and I didn't want to. I am not sure how I would explain it. "I am fine."
"Thank you for the cake." Heeseung held up the box, nodding. "I will see you guys in class."
Of course Sunoo asked what he had been talking about. I made up a lie about getting sick at the party before I left with Jake.
I said good night to Sunoo and Jungwon and I plugged in the address from the card into my GPS. I hadn't gotten a lot of information about what the property was now.
