"What did I do wrong?" Kael asked as we passed the toiletry isle. I ignored him like I'd been doing since we left campus.

"Scarlett, talk to me!"

I leveled him a dark look before putting eight cans of coke and four bottles of Pepsi Cola in the trolley. The four of them {Michael, Mikaela, Cyan, even Kael(!!)} were Coke lovers. Nicole and I didn't get the fuss over it and adored Pepsi Cola, much to their amusement.

Next I went to the confectionery isle and tossed in a lot of chocolate {the milk chocolate, malva pudding, red velvet, and the caramel kind}. After that I got like, actual food {store bought grilled cheese sandwiches, because they were that good} and some pies, because who cares if they may or may not contain an ingredient found in human hair? They were still delish.

Next I got bananas, because why not? I also got chips {Caramel popcorn, because I didn't want to spend most of the time listening to people telling me I should have gotten Lays, then someone else will disagree and say I should have gotten Simba Chips, then an argument begins about which of the two brands are better. Heck no}.

I also took three five litre bottles of water, and then lastly, I got myself two huge tubs of Nutella {the original one, not that coconut and chocolate} just for the heck of it.

I just reread that, and for some reason I sound a lot like Cyan.

Kael tried to talk to me again after we paid for everything and walked out of the store. "Scarlett, is the—"

I cut him off. "Don't worry about it, it's nothing," I said with a deliberately forced calm smile.

W

e were the first ones there. Before I could get out of the car, Kael locked the doors, and both of us inside. I tried unlocking it by the handle, but the dang thing wouldn't budge.

"Child lock," he said.

I slumped against the seat.

"Scarlett, I can't fix this if I don't know what I did wrong," he said in his usual cold, aloof demeanor.

"Phone call."

He didn't react much, so he had probably already guessed. "I told you it was nothing. What exactly is the problem?"

"If you had not lied, I would have let it be!" I yelled.

"Lied? What are you talking about?"

"If the colder-than-usual tone you used on the interlocutor hadn't give you away, then the faker-than -plastic-boobs-smile calmness you displayed when I asked you about it did."

"You were eavesdropping on me?"

"Of course not! I could just tell because the room's temperature dropped when you got on the phone! I saw a snowflake!"

Lies.

Shut up, I'm in the middle of something!

Kael took a deep breath to steady himself. "I'm sorry," he said. "That was...it was Sydney."

I frowned. "Why would you speak to her like that?"

"She found out about us and was telling me to stay away from you and called you something which made me threaten her. She's on my hit list now."

"What did she say?" I asked, curious.

"That she's a whore for making out with someone barely forty-five minutes after meeting them. I also let her know that I did not approve of her relationship with Michelangelo. She then told me she doesn't approve of us either, and I grounded her for three weeks and banned her from seeing Michelangelo during that period of time."

"You did that for me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Of course. I'd do almost anything for you."

I arched a brow. "Almost anything?"

"What? If someone told me to love someone else to save you, I'd take my own life so that you could live."

"Oh Kael," I whispered.

He took my chin between his fingers and pulled me in for a quick kiss which ended up running for so long that we only stopped when Mikaela knocked on my window.

We had a great afternoon. Cyan, instead of being mad at me for getting a boyfriend, congratulated Kael for being my first.

Boyfriend, not kiss, because Michelangelo had already beaten him to the latter.

As expected, an argument arose on whether Coke was/wasn't better than Pepsi. Nicole and I watched the boys give points so ridiculous Mikaela almost ripped their heads off.

We sat down on the folding chairs Cyan had gotten a hold of from who knows where. I sat on Kael's lap, my back pressed against his chest, and his arms around my waist while conversation flowed easily among us.

Everyone was so happy and so carefree in that moment. Everyone there was a Reinavivor {except Cyan}. Everyone there had scars inflicted on them by one person {Except Cyan}, yet everyone was happy.

I thought it would last for a long while, but even that we could not keep, for danger was literally around the corner.

None of us could have anticipated what would go down that night, for we had all underestimated the threat.

It's short, I know, but I needed this. These kind of chapters kind of prepare us for what's to come.

Expected Cyan to be more, explosive? Nah, that's why they have two older brothers.

Question: What do you guys think?

Pepsi, or Coke? Are there any fellow Pepsi fans in the audience? Please let me know! Hit that comment section with your opinion!

Also, Lays or Simba? Personally, I like Lays' Cream and Onion as well as the American Barbeque, not to mention Korean Heist. For Simba I like barbeque flavour and chutney.

Until we read again folks, but for now, it's a bye bye!

Danko!

Valhala1983, out.
