The television studio lights blazed as a woman in a yellow cardigan and distinctive red glasses leaned forward, her white hair tied in a large topknot. "I sense a great betrayal in your future, Shoma-san," she intoned gravely. "Someone close to you will reveal your darkest secret."
The celebrity shifted uncomfortably in his chair. "That's impossible. I don't have any secrets."
"The spirits don't lie," the woman, known to viewers as Santa Dodoria, replied with absolute certainty. "And they tell me yours involves a rather scandalous relationship with—"
"Cut!" The producer interrupted hastily. "Let's take five, everyone."
After the broadcast, Santa Dodoria – or Seiko Ayase, as she was known to her friends – walked out of the studio to find a familiar RV waiting. Behind the wheel sat Maxwell Tennyson, his Hawaiian shirt as loud as ever.
"Need a lift, old friend?" Max called out with a warm smile.
"You're a lifesaver, Max," Seiko replied, climbing into the passenger seat. "Though I suspect you didn't just happen to be in the neighborhood."
"Can't get anything past you," Max chuckled as he pulled away from the curb. "Been sensing some strange energies lately. The kind that usually means trouble."
Their conversation was cut short by the sudden screech of tires as Max slammed on the brakes. Through the windshield, they could see two teenagers – one of them Max's grandson Ben – cornered by a monstrous elderly woman with glowing eyes.
"That's Turbo Granny," Seiko said grimly, reaching for something under her seat. "And that's my granddaughter she's about to eat."
"Well then," Max replied, pulling out a strange-looking weapon, "let's crash this party."
They burst out of the RV in perfect synchronization. Seiko hurled a brick with a nail embedded in it while Max traced a mystical circle on the ground with practiced efficiency. The brick struck Turbo Granny just as she lunged for Momo and Ben, causing the spirit to erupt in supernatural flames.
"Get away from my granddaughter," Seiko commanded, her voice carrying an authority that made even the spirit pause.
Turbo Granny snarled and tried to circle behind them, but Max had anticipated this. "Not so fast," he said, completing another circle. "You're not the first supernatural entity I've dealt with."
The spirit found herself trapped between two barriers, unable to escape without being scorched by purifying flames. Seiko stepped forward, wielding her bat with deadly precision while Max's fists, enhanced by years of Plumber training, struck with devastating force.
"If you destroy me, the boy dies too!" Turbo Granny shrieked as another blow landed.
"You threatened my granddaughter," Seiko replied coldly. "That's unforgivable." She nodded to Max, who had quietly drawn a second barrier while the spirit was distracted.
Seiko placed a nail in the center of the new circle and whispered, "Farewell." With one swift movement, she erased the first circle with her foot. The resulting explosion of spiritual energy reduced Turbo Granny to ashes.
Hours later, Momo awoke in her bed, her head pounding. She made her way downstairs to find her grandmother and a familiar older man watching television together.
"Grandmother? Have you seen Okarun? And that cute green-eyed boy?" Momo asked, then blushed at her own words.
"Oh, you mean Ben?" Seiko replied innocently. "After I exorcised the evil spirit—"
"You what?" Momo interrupted, panic rising in her voice.
"Well, she was threatening you," Seiko said matter-of-factly. "Speaking of threats, remember when you called me a fake spirit medium?"
