4. Kartik's Overprotectiveness

Kartik brought the tea back in the room and gave the cups to the girls.

"Drink it", he said softly.

Akshu and Aaru still had puffy eyes but they had stopped crying. They drank the tea silently.

"Where are your phones?" He asked.

They both gave their phones to him. Kartik asked the password and then opened it.

"Hello boy", he said coldly to Abhimanyu. Akshu gulped and glanced at Aaru to see she had widened eyes as well.

"I am informing you that for a few days, Akshu won't come back", he said.

"S-sure sir", Abhimanyu stammered. Kartik hung up straight away after that.

He kept their phones aside.

"Done. Go and brush your teeth now quickly", he said. Both the girls stood up and one by one went in the washroom to brush their teeth and then change into nightwears. First Akshu and then Aaru.

"Come on. Lie down now", he said. They both lied down. Kartik tucked them in the blanket. He patted their heads.

"What happened? Not feeling sleepy. Should I read a story for you?" He asked.

They both nodded feeling good.

Kartik narrated them some cute tales of friendship and fairy tales.

Both of them had smiles on their faces. Kartik was now sitting between them and the girls rested their heads on his lap. He was caressing their hair.

"And then..." He chuckled and stopped as he heard soft snores. Both of them had slept.

Kartik kept caressing their hair.

From the doorway, Naira and Sirat watched it with slight smiles on their faces and went away. They told the other children about it who were glad hearing that and all of them decided to not disturb the father & daughters.

Kartik actually slept in that sitting position.

Later in the morning, he was all ready and came in their room. He kept the glasses of hot milk on the table.

"Get up sleepyheads", he said.

Akshu and Aaru groaned together, covering their faces with blanket when Kartik pulled open the curtains letting sunlight inside.

"Akshu. Aaru. Get up baba. It's late", he said frowning but they didn't budge.

"Please get up babies. Papa's hungry and he can't eat food without you both", he said. Both the girls stirred awake.

"Papa!" They made grabby hands.

Kartik laughed softly and went forward. They both came towards him and hugged him. Their heads reaching till his waist. He smiled and kissed them on their hair.

"No noise now. The water is hot. I had switched on the geyser. Akshu! You go first and come in ten minutes. Aaru! You go next and both of you should come together. We all are waiting", he said.

Aaru and Akshu nodded.

They both got ready. They wanted to talk about whatever their father scolded them about but the things were unfortunately so ruined that they knew they would just end up shouting on each other.

And they had immense fear of their father so they didn't want to make any noise.

After getting ready, they went and gulped seeing their father's stern gaze on them. Glancing nervously at each other, they silently stepped down and reached the table.

Everyone else were giggling seeing them.

Seerat and Naira were serving food.

"Seerat! Naira! Serve them also please", Kartik said. Akshu and Aaru sat down.

Seerat filled their plates with rice and Naira put the chapati on the plates. They kept bowls of vegetables and curd.

"I want the plates empty ok and no talking while eating", he said.

"Ok but papa..." Akshu said.

"Where are our phones?" Aaru asked.

"I took them and you are not getting them back as of now. I don't want you talking to those boys. Am I clear?" He asked.

Both of them looked at their mothers who just shrugged helplessly.

Kartik was being too overprotective!

Aaru and Akshu pouted sadly as they ate their food. Naira and Seerat chuckled silently.

"All done. Akshu! Aaru! Come I will drop all of you at your respective places and will take you back as well. Also if possible, ask for a holiday. We will go on a family trip", he smiled.

Akshu and Aaru got excited and nodded.

"Where?!"

"No talking while eating food", Kartik smirked. "And besides that's a surprise", he added.

Aaru and Akshu pouted.

Naira and Seerat were sitting on Kartik's either sides.

Manish just looked gratefully ahead.

The table was always chaotic because of the issues between these sisters but now as their parents sat in front, both of them didn't even dare to utter a word.

"Won't you like to say something to each other?" Manish teased.

Aarohi and Akshu looked down in fear when Kartik's eyes fixed on them.

"Papa", he sighed and Manish stopped snickering silently.

Kartik went with the girls and the other kids. He dropped the younger ones first and then took Akshu & Aaru.

He glared at the hospital name.

Birla Hospital

Akshu and Aaru sat awkwardly in the car.

"Come. I will drop you inside", Kartik said.

"Papa", they said embarassed.

What were they?

Five year olds!

Kartik ignored it and got down from the car. He opened the car door for his girls and then held their hands.

Anyone else would be embarassed but as these two felt their father's warmth, they smiled big with tears.

They yearned for it all these years and now they were feeling it.

Everyone else stared and awed at the scene.

Kartik walked slowly with them. As if he was scared they would stumble and hurt themselves.

Well! He was.

"Princess! Don't get too lost in work. Eat your food on time. Pick up my calls. Don't go out with anyone else. I will come to pick you up", he said.

Akshu and Aaru smiled big.

"Hey! Don't stare at my girls. Look away", he said to the male doctors who were actually their friends.

They laughed softly and went away.

Kartik huffed and pulled his daughters in a hug. He kept his hold firm. His eyes glistened.

For others, it was a short thing. Like obviously he will get the girls back after their work hours but he had returned after so long.

He couldn't accept the fact of loosing them. This was the first seperation after he met them.

He kept his firm hold not letting them and they didn't want to go either. They just kept hugging him with tears in their own eyes.

He kissed on their hair.

"I love you"

He whispered and felt his ears blessed when he heard their soft giggles.

While Birla boys just watched from afar with soft smiles.
