"Hahaha, that's so funny Sodapop oh my god!!" Exclaimed the soc girls in front of me. They can get real annoying sometimes. Those girls aren't the only ones that stop here on a daily basis though. I wish they'd leave me be for a day, they're gonna get me into trouble with them damn soc boys.
"Ha yeah," I trailed. "Well thanks for stopping by girls, I'll see ya'll tomorrow." I said as politely as I could with a fake smile. Their faces beamed back at me.
"Bye Sodapop, we'll see you around!" Responded Lacey in a high pitch, annoying voice as they walked off. Thank goodness.
"Hey, Steve, I'm done for the day you ready yet?" I asked Steve from across the repairing garage.
"I'll be out in a few, boy!" Yelled back Steve. I started to clean up and close shop so that we could head back for the day and just as I closed my end of the garage Steve walked out and locked up his. It's a good thing the days are longer in the summer, it would've been dark out by now if it were winter and we would've had to walk home in the dark. Trust me, that's never good especially with these good-for-nothing Socs meddling into our side of town just to cause trouble. The thing about them is they're like vampires now, they don't come out before the sun has set, at least not after what happened to Bob. Which is good, because the sun was still setting but it gave us time to get home.
After walking down a few blocks Steve and I parted ways and I went up the road to my house. I got happy knowing Dallas was gonna be there. I started to think, but then a blue mustang pulled around the corner just as I was almost home. Why are they here? It's still early; last I checked it was almost a quarter to 8, and the sky is still a golden rose color. That doesn't matter now though, I need to run or else I'll get jumped just like Johnny and Pony last time. It can't happen to any of us greasers again.
I sped up to say the least, I ran for my life and I got home in the blink of an eye. Being on the football team in school paid off I guess. Once I got inside and caught my breath, the blue mustang was nowhere near sight. I put out a deep sigh and threw myself onto the back of the old couch. That was close. I was sweating like a stuck pig.
"What happened to you, someone ruffled your feathers did they?" Said Ponyboy with a half-smirk.
"Put a cork in it Ponyboy!" I laughed, still catching my breath. How did I have such a handsome brother? I swear he got his looks from me. I laughed again but this time it was internally. Ha, I actually got away from a blue mustang.
"Well then pepsi pop, give us a story." Said Dallas with a cigarette in his mouth. He thought I wouldn't notice his small smirk, but I did.
"Those socs man, they almost got away with a beating, good thing I'm fast. Ha." I smiled. I know I should probably be surprised or scared or something, but man what a rush! I took my shirt off, which was really wet, and wiped my sweat. That sounds stupid but it helped, it wasn't like drenched or anything.
"Oh jeez, Sodapop, are you okay?" Dally stood up to come check me out and I smiled.
"I'm just fine, dally." I laughed.
He grabbed my sweaty hand and pulled me up to my feet. He looked like he wanted make out with me right then and there which made me laugh out loud. Everyone looked at me all confused now 'cause of my 'random' laughing, including him so I shut my mouth and laughed in my head. Boy, it was funny how easily I could make him drool over me.
I may not be the brightest Curtis boy but I sure wasn't an idiot. This is the part where I start flirting to make 'em go nuts over me, but obviously that was a little difficult in my situation, I can't look like one one those homos in front of the gang. That would be bad, none of 'em really know my secret; I'm real discrete about it. And before you think I'm fully fruity or something, I'm not. I mean every once in a while I like to be curious but most of the time I'm as straight as a log.
Girls are smokin', I don't know how anyone couldn't like them but boys are alright too. I'm also picky with boys, it's not like I'll go crushin' on any. Dally however, wasn't so bad. He's a good looking kid but I'm not too crazy yet. He'll have to catch my attention somehow if he want me.
Did I really just admit this to myself? What in the world? I went all out too, am I crazy? I swear to god I'm losing my mind now. I need to get out more.
"Hey boys, any of you wanna sneak into the drive-in later with a few drinks? I heard there's gonna be chick-flick, you know what that means." I announced while grabbing a piece of cake and taking a bite. Through the corner of my eye I saw how disappointed Dallas looked at the thought of me getting with a girl.
"I'll go with you Soda, I bet you we can score some soc's too." Said Johnny.
"Mind driving us Dally? Wouldn't wanna be caught walking around here late.." I asked turning to him with puppy dog eyes, knowing he wouldn't be able to resist.
"Fine, I'll drive ya but I'm not staying, and I'm droppin' ya off half a block down, got it?" He demanded.
"All set Dal," responded Johnny.
"I'll bring the car around at a quarter to nine, see ya boys." He walked out.
"See ya Dal!" We all yelled in sync.
