I'd managed to get away from meeting my parents for most of the morning but as the day. approached noon, I was starting to get hungry. Since I hadn't planned this earlier on, there was no way to feed myself.

I'd need to go downstairs to get something to eat but I quite frankly wasn't too keen on the idea.

Once I couldn't take it any longer, I found my feet slowly dragging my famished self down the stairs with only one destination engraved in my subconscious mind.

My eyes scanned the living room and the dining room before I sighed, relieved when I noticed Sophia and River were no where in sight but I still felt slight disappointment in their absence even if I tried to deny it.

I stepped into the kitchen, a little frown adorning my face when I noticed there wasn't a single maid in sight. Not in the living room, the dining or anywhere I'd been before coming into the kitchen

"Of course they aren't here when I actually need the help" I muttered with a small sigh.

It was definitely my fault I was feeling so weak because I hadn't eaten anything until now, especially when I had so little the previous night, but right now, I didn't have the energy to prepare anything to eat.

My very last hope laid on the fact that unless expressly told not to, the maids always prepared food for everyone. Since I didn't tell them not to, unless River or Sophia Said something, they must have prepared mine as well.

With that thought in mind, I headed straight for the fridge and smiled when I saw the well packaged sweet potato pudding and chicken tenders.

A quick microwave later, I was heading up the stairs with a tray of delicious smelling food, a cup of orange juice and a bunch of other snack items. I didn't want to take the chance of running into Sophia or River by eating at the dining table or coming down again to get snacks if I had a craving I knew I would unavoidably eventually get.

I paused in front of the door to my room. My hands were busy holing the tray and I was trying to figure out how to open the door.

I internally groaned with an eye roll at the unexpected yet funny predicament I found myself.

I heard someone chuckle behind me. "Need some help? Sophia asked, her voice subconsciously making me freeze.

I turned my neck to face her, my body as stiff as ever. "If you don't mind I managed to say with an equally stiff smile, hoping she didn't notice.

She opened the door for me before stepping to the side, still holding it open.

I entered silently hoping she wouldn't follow and immediately leave once I was in but she unfortunately followed, shutting the door behind her.

"Good afternoon mom" I greeted, seeing as I had no other available options at that very moment.

"Mmm" she hummed with a nod. I settled on the bed, expecting her to do so as well but she instead settled on the chair in front of my reading table but only after checking my temperature.

"You slept in late today honey. You look and feel perfectly fine so you must have been really exhausted then." She said and I nodded.

'Very exhausted from trying so hard to avoid the very conversation happening right now.' Is what I would have loved to say to her but for obvious reasons I swallowed those words and instead said, "Yes mom. School's been... well school, it gets exhausting at times I'm sure you understand. You did go through it after all

She laughed and for a moment I was entranced by how genuine it sounded. If I didn't know better, I would have actually believed she was enjoying spending time with me.
