005. QUARRY

CASSIE LEFT HER HOUSE getting on her bike. It only took her a little while to get to the quarry, but when she did, she saw all her friends standing at the edge, wearing their underwear.

They were arguing about something, until Bill spoke up. ''So, whose first?'' They all peered over the edge, while Cassie was changing.

''I'll go,'' She said, taking off her last piece of clothing.

All five boys turned around, to see her in her undergarments. She gave them a wild smile, and ran right past all of them, and leaped off the edge. "SISSIES!" She yelled before plunging into the cold water that was wierdly refreshing.

"What the fuck!" Richie yelled from at the top.

When Cassie came back to the surface, she saw someone jump off, and that someone had fiery red hair. She smiled once she realised it was Bev.

"Holy shit! We just got showed up by two girls!" Richie exclaimed.

"We have to do that now?" Stan asked.

"Yes," Eddie replied.

Bill smirked down at the water, before leaping off the cliff. Soon, all the others followed.

This is what summer was supposed to be, swimming in the quarry no care in the world except themselves having fun.

would it last..no it definitely wouldn't for some it will become the worst summer or maybe even their last.

Cassie was laid out on a beach towel next to Bev, music playing in the background. She was lying on her back, sunglasses on, and soaking up the sun.

Richie, Ben, Stan, Bill, and Eddie were staring at the two girls. After a while, Cass sat up leaning on her elbows taking her sunglasses off raising her eyebrows at the five boys who looked away quickly.

Richie was going through Ben's bag, "New flash Ben, school's out for summa!"

"Oh, that? That's not school stuff." Ben answered.

The raven haired boy pulled out a post-card with a lighthouse. "Who sent you this?"

"No one!" Ben said, snatching the card back.

Richie fished out a blue envelop, and inside was facts about Derry, from way long back. "What's with the history project?"

"Oh, well, when I first moved here, I didn't have anyone to hang out with. So, I just started spending time in the library."

"You went to the library? On purpose?" Richie asked as the passed the folder round.

"I wanna see." Cassie stand standing up and going to sit next to bill.

Beverly came next to Cassie, scanning the pages as well. It took the brunette a second to realize her hair was cut short.

"Bev, your hair-" she started before getting cut off by Ben

"Your hair is beautiful, Beverly," Ben said, smiling as Cassie huffed in annoyance she hated getting interrupted considering she constantly did at home. Bill nudged the brunette "it's fine." He mouthed to her. "Yeah..." She mouthed back smiling.

"Thanks, Ben." Beverly said, her cheeks flushing.

"Why's it all murders and missing kids?" Cass said resting her chin on bill's shoulder and running her finger over the page.

"Derry's not like any town I've ever seen." Ben started. "They did a study once. It turns out, people die or disappear six times the national average."

"You read that?" Beverly questioned.

"Not just grown-ups. Kids are way worse, way, way worse. I've got more stuff if you want to see it." Ben said. Eddie shook his head frantically gulping.

_____

Everyone had gotten dressed, and rode their bikes to Ben's house. Ben's house was an average sized house, and it was nice.

Cassie hopped off her bike as she heard the sound of laughter from behind and looked back to see Eddie had fallen over and Richie was practically dying of laughing helping the smaller boy up.

She followed Bill up the stairs, and Ben's room was filled with pictures of Derry. It coated all four walls of his room.

"Wow, wow, wow!" Richie commented.

''Cool, right?''Ben said.

''No, nothing cool.'' Richie said, inspecting some of the papers.

Cass looked at Bill, who was holding up a projector slide.

''What's that?'' Stan asked, pointing to a piece of paper with the number 91 underneath it.

''Oh, that? That's the charter for Derry Township.'' Ben answered.

''Nerd alert.'' Richie commented pushing up his glasses.

"Seriously Richie, go and chase after girls that don't want you." Cassie said annoyed.

"But I'm chasing after you and you want me." Richie smirked as Cassie rolled her eyes. What they didn't realise was bill glaring and scoffing at the two.

"Derry started as a beaver trapping camp." Ben started.

Richie raised his hand, ''Still is, am I right, boys?''

Stan shook his head.

''Ninety-one people signed the charter that made Derry. But later that winter, they all disappeared without a trace.'' Ben finished.

''The entire camp?''Eddie asked.

''There were rumors of Indians, but no sign of an attack. Everyone thought it was a plague or something. But it's like, one day, everyone woke up and left. The only clue was a trail of bloody clothes leading to the well-house.''

"Jesus, we could go on Unsolved Mysteries.'' Richie stated.

''Where was the well-house?'' Bill asked.

Ben shrugged his shoulders. ''I don't know, somewhere in town, I guess. Why?''

Bill shook his head, ''Nothing.''
