The next morning, as Jungkook and Taehyung stared at the mountain of work ahead, a lightbulb went off in Jungkook's head.
“Wait a second,” he said, narrowing his eyes. “Why the hell are we the only ones doing this?”
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. “Because the dean hates us and thinks we’re the root of all evil?”
“No,” Jungkook snapped. “I mean, why aren’t the people who actually broke the sundial here fixing it?”
Taehyung blinked, then let out a slow whistle. “You know, for once, you’ve said something smart.”
Jungkook ignored the backhanded compliment. “Let’s go drag their sorry asses here.”
The duo stormed into the common area where their respective friends were lounging around like they didn’t have a care in the world.
Jungkook crossed his arms, glaring at his friends. “Do you know where I’ve been for the last two days?”
Seojin, mid-slurp of her bubble tea, raised an eyebrow. “Judging by your face? Hell.”
Taehyung smirked. “Close. He’s been rebuilding the sundial you all broke.”
His engineering friends froze.
Jungkook’s voice rose. “And guess what? You’re all coming with us to fix it.”
Hoseok groaned, sinking into his chair. “But I have plans!”
“Plans?” Jungkook snapped. “Like sitting here and scrolling TikTok?”
“That’s a valid plan!” Hoseok argued.
Taehyung grabbed Hoseok by the arm, pulling him out of his chair. “Not anymore, it isn’t.”
Within an hour, Taehyung and Jungkook had successfully rounded up their unwilling workforce.
“Alright,” Jungkook said, pointing at the pile of sundial debris. “Start sorting.”
The group collectively groaned.
“Why do we have to do this?” Seojin complained, holding up a piece of the shattered base. “I wasn’t even the one who pushed it!”
“Yeah, but you were there,” Jungkook shot back. “And you didn’t stop it, so you’re guilty by association.”
Hoseok, looking at the mess with horror, muttered, “I don’t even know what a sundial is supposed to look like. Can’t we just... glue it together randomly?”
Taehyung laughed. “Sure. If you want it to look like a Pinterest DIY fail.”
As the group got to work, the complaints came fast and loud.
“Why is this piece so heavy?”
“Does anyone know where this triangle thing goes?”
“I’m sweating! Why is this harder than gym class?”
“This glue smells weird. Are we gonna die?”
Jungkook stood in the middle of the chaos, his eye twitching. “Can everyone just focus for five minutes?”
Taehyung, lounging on a chair with a smug grin, added, “And stop whining. You’re ruining my vibe.”
Seojin threw a piece of the base at him. “You don’t even have a vibe!”
Despite the endless groaning, by the end of the day, the group had actually made some progress.
The base was starting to come together, and even the gnomon was looking... somewhat functional.
Jungkook wiped his hands on his apron, sighing. “Alright. Not bad. Let’s meet again tomorrow.”
Seojin threw up her hands. “Again? Tomorrow?!”
“Yes, tomorrow,” Jungkook said firmly. “Unless you want to explain to the dean why the sundial still looks like a pile of rubble.”
Taehyung smirked. “Besides, it’s kinda fun, isn’t it? Team bonding and all that.”
Hoseok glared at him. “I hope you trip on your way home.”
