IN WHICH . . .
you have a nightmare but
they are there to comfort youDRACO MALFOY ⟡
▹ the blonde boy let out an exhale of relief as his head hit the pillow. draco had been swamped with quidditch recently, so you knew he was tired.
you and draco had been friends for years now, seemingly instantly becoming close when you met in first year. sleepovers in each others dorms was nothing foreign to you two, and that was exactly what was occurring now.
it was routine at this point. draco would sneak in to your dorm, pillows and blankets in tow. he would sleep on the floor next to your bed, often hugging one of your stuffed animals - a detail he begged you not to tell anyone.
this night was no different. draco turned on to his side to look at you as you collapsed onto your pillow. yawning, he rubbed his eyes.
"goodnight y/n. sleep well." his voice when he was tired was a mix of gravel and roughness, and you felt a slow blush heat your cheeks.
"yeah, you too. goodnight draco." you said, before flicking off the light. almost immediately, you could hear his breathing slow as he drifted off to sleep.
sighing, you closed your eyes and felt yourself losing consciousness as the throes of sleep captured you.
you're in a dark hallway, lit by flickering lamps above you. taking a step forward, you look around nervously. this is your family home, a place that doesn't yield fantastic memories.
suddenly, your younger sister appears before you. she looks physically healthy, but something appears wrong. her face is contorted in fear, and she tries to speak to you before shadows suddenly swirl out of the darkness and seem to grab her.
you cry out and reach for her as she screams, but the shadows won't let up, bringing her to their obscured abyss. her hand reaches out to you as she cries out for help, screaming. futilely, you try to grab it and then-
you shoot up with a shout, cold sweat trickling down your neck and the blankets a tangle around you. panting, you rub your eyes, trying to account for your surroundings again.
needless to say, you and your sister didn't exactly have a good relationship with your parents, and you felt responsible to take care of her yourself. when you couldn't protect her while you were at hogwarts, the worry often manifested itself in these nightmares.
besides you, draco stirs, quickly getting up when he hears you shout. worry etches every line of his face as he stands up.
"are you okay? what is it? are you hurt?" his rapid fire questions leave you with no room to respond as he fusses over you, checking your temperature and smoothing the hair from your face.
"just another nightmare." you mutter. draco's face falls, visibly worried for you.
"is there anything i can do for you?" he whispers, his fingers finding their way into your hair and lightly stroking it reassuringly.
you look away, a silent blush coloring your cheeks. "can you stay with me?" you ask, quietly. draco nods like it's the most obvious question in the world. "of course."
slowly, he crawls into bed with you, situating himself next to you. you lean against his chest and the heat from his body radiates, reminding you of a warm fireplace.
