As he walked, Dev didn't notice the road ahead. He stepped off the curb, into the path of an oncoming car. But before the car could touch him everything went dark.

After some hours when Dev gained his consciousness, he found himself lying in a hospital bed. His body ached all over, and his head was spinning. He tried to remember how he got there, but his memories were hazy.
A kind-faced nurse smiled down at him. "Hey kiddo! How are you feeling now?" she said. "The car owner said that you fainted before his car could touch you, also that car owner brought you here,he payed the bill too!."
Dev's memories began to return, and he winced in pain. His father's angry face flashed before his eyes, and he remembered the beating he had received.
The nurse noticed Dev's distress and took his hand. "Don't worry, beta. You're safe now. We'll take care of you."
As Dev lay in bed, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him.
After a few minutes, the nurse again came and spoke.
The nurse smiled warmly at Dev. "I'm going to call your emergency contact, okay?" she said.
Dev nodded, still feeling dazed. He didn't know who the nurse would call, but he hoped it would be someone he could trust.
The nurse dialed a number on her phone and spoke briefly to someone. Then she hung up and smiled at Dev.
"Your friend Aarav is on his way," she said and gave his phone and other belongings to him.
Dev's heart lifted at the mention of Aarav's name. Aarav was his best friend, and Dev knew he could always count on him.
Aarav's pov:- 𓇢𓆸
I was in the kitchen with Kashvi, trying to make some decent snacks. My elder sister, Ananya, was out for the day, and I had invited Kashvi over to keep me company.
Kashvi was laughing at my attempts to cook, and I was teasing her about her lack of culinary skills. We were having a great time, enjoying each other's company, when my phone rang.
"I'll pick up it, kripaya mera kitchen destroy mat karna". I heard her whining at my statement and laughingly walked towards the living room after wiping my hands on a towel and picked up the phone. "Hello?" I said, expecting it to be Ananya calling to check in.
But instead, I heard a stranger's voice on the other end. "Aarav, this is Nurse from the (xyz) hospital. I'm calling to inform you that your friend Dev has been admitted to our hospital."
My heart skipped a beat. "Dev!? What happened to him? An accident!?" I blurted out in one breath.
Kashvi noticed the look on my face and immediately stopped laughing. "What's wrong?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
I held up a hand, indicating that I needed a moment. "What kind of accident?" I asked the nurse, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Not an accident but it looks like he got beaten by a belt badly, the car owner said that he fainted before his car could touch him" the nurse replied. "He's stable now, but he's going to need some time to recover."
I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Dev, my best friend, my brother, was hurt. I had to see him.
"Thank you for calling me," I said to the nurse. "I'll be right there."
