Blazing Sunset

Ty walked in front of the other two, leading the way down a serene, forest walking path. The bikes had been parked at the start of the trail, and left there. The curving path was surrounded by nature, going down over a hill, and covered on the left by tall, mossy trees. On the right, some mountains with the sun setting on them.

Matt realized that the sun went so perfectly with his best friend's hair, he made a mental note to mention it to him one of these days.

"So what did you want to talk to me about, Jack?" Matt broke the peaceful silence while looking towards Jack.

"Well, my parents asked me about my color a few days ago. After I told them that it was with you, they started freaking out, and screaming at me." Jack looked down at the path ahead with a sad look on his face. The setting sun fell upon his face and his hair glistened orange in the sunset.

"Jack, I think that I-" Matt was interrupted by Jack, holding his hand up.

"Matt, it isn't right. The color is supposed to be between a boy and a girl. We made a mistake. We aren't soul mates."

"Jack, who ever told you that is wrong, we saw the color as we saw each other! You know as well as I do that it's true! We are meant to be together! We give each other color!"

"Well how are you going to prove society wrong?! If someone saw us together in public, we would be killed!"

Jack was now screaming, and Ty started to say something, but walked away as Jack threateningly looked at him.

"Jack, please, I love you. Don't do this!" Matt was on the verge of tears, and he moved closer to Jack.

"Get away from me, you aren't right!" Jack said, backhanding Matt.

"Jack, please, just-" Jack punched Matt in the face, and Matt felt the familiar heat of the tears running down his cheeks.

"Jack..." Matt said as he fell back onto the ground.

"Stay away from me. We are done being friends." Jack said, whispering it while towering over the poor young man he just emotionally destroyed. Jack kicked Matt in the side over and over. Matt knew that Jack was serious. Matt knew that his life was over. Matt was done. He just closed his eyes and began hoping that Jack, his best friend that he loved, would slowly beat him to death.

Jack stomped on Matt's face, successfully giving him a bloody nose and busted lip. He was done torturing him. As Jack walked away, Matt watched him. And as he walked, Matt began to cry even harder as everything began turning back to the same boring shade of gray. Everything except the color of that blazing sunset, the color of that hair that he adored so much.
