Matt ate the amazing breakfast his friend had prepared. It was composed of eggs, toast, hash browns, pancakes, and then some sausage, all on one large plate. They ate in a quaint, light filled dining room. The small, wooden table in the center of the room is where Matt and Ty were seated, facing each other.
"So, where will you go after this, Matt?" Ty asked, looking up from his plate of food. "Well, I need to go get some stuff from my old house, then I'll probably just be camping until I can find a place to stay. What are you up too?"
"Well, I wasn't going to do anything, but I think I want to come help you. You shouldn't have to go in there alone, Matt. It won't be safe for you." Ty said, giving Matt a pleading look. "Ty, Gary is an idiot. He might hurt you. He might even be drunk. I don't want to risk you." Matt said, offering Ty a smile of bravery.
"Well, I'm going with you anyways. You're not going alone and that's that." Ty said, standing up and leaving the dining room. Matt followed after him and walked into the room that Ty entered only to see him getting his biking shirt on.
"You really won't give this one up, will you, Ty?" Matt said, sitting down on the bed, facing Ty. "Nope, and we are leaving right now, and then we are coming back here. There's no way you're staying out in the weather. You can live with me." Ty said, glancing up at Matt to see the shocked look on his face.
"Ty, I don't want to burden you any more than I already have. Ty, I don't deserve to live here. You do." Matt said, standing up and placing his hands on Ty's shoulders.
"Well then I feel like I should be able to choose who lives with me." Ty shot back, and smiled at Matt. Ty began to feel a little awkward, as Matt just kind of stared at him. "Um, Matt?" Matt pulled Ty into a hug, and whispered two words into his ear. "Thank you."
"It's really not a problem, Matt. I enjoy your company. You're an awesome person." Ty said, pulling back from the hug. "You ready to go get some of my stuff?" Matt asked as he began to walk to the door. "Yeah. Let's go."
Matt and Ty walked down the mountain road with their bikes, since Matt didn't know if he could actually ride on the bumps and turns. Once they reached the bottom, they began to pedal. Matt's house was only about ten minutes away, and the whole ride there was silent, anticipation, anxiety, and wonder filling the air.
"Okay, once we get up here, I want you to stay close behind me. Gary is dangerous." Matt said as they walked up the driveway to Matt's parents' house.
"Hey! Get out of here you scum! I told you to leave and never come back, don't you remember?" Gary screamed from the front door.
"I just want to get some stuff! I won't even want to come back. I just need my stuff for college when it starts!" Matt shot back, pushing his way past Gary. He could smell it on his breath, he was drunk.
"Your mother and I have decided that your old room could be of use to us, so you might want to get whatever shit you came for and leave." Gary said, his words beginning to slur. "Ty, hurry. He's an angry drunk. This won't end well." Matt whispered to his friend as they entered his old room.
Matt walked over to his desk, picking up his laptop and putting it into its bag. He grabbed a few books, and then his necklace. It was really a simple thing, but it was the last thing his father got him before he turned into the drunk he was now.
"Alright, you ready?" Ty asked as Matt walked towards the door. He was just about to put his hand on the knob when he heard the sound of a slap and then his mom, telling Gary to get off of her.
"Mom!" Matt said as he dropped everything and ran. Ty was close behind, grabbing up the stuff Matt had dropped. "Get off of her!" Matt yelled as he tried to pull Gary off of Bella.
Gary was on top of Bella, strangling her and slapping her. Gary looked at Matt and decided his son would be more fun to abuse, and he punched Matt in the face.
"Gary!" Bella said as she seen Matt spiral backward. Matt regained his balance and motivation quickly though, bringing his elbow around to hit Gary in the face. Gary put a hand over his now bloody nose, and grimaced at his son.
"You are such an ignorant, annoying, pesky little nuisance!" Gary screamed as he charged at Matt. "Well at least I don't abuse the ones I love!" Matt yelled as he sidestepped his father, tripping him with his foot and successfully causing him to crash. Gary's face landed in a table, and he was out cold.
"Bye, mom. It was good seeing you again." Matt said, not even waiting for an answer as he walked away from Gary's house, Ty following behind.
