Matt walked along the narrow hallway, wondering when he would find his rescuer. He saw a few paintings, but only recognized a few shades of red, maybe a bit of orange. After walking for a while, he found a large room with nothing but an empty doorframe leading into it.
On one side was a wall, on the other, curved glass, the room was the shape of a circle, but the glass wall allowed Matt to freely see the beautiful nature outside. He had an amazing vantage point, seeing as he was on the side of a mountain. It was beautiful as he remembered it, anyway. The only color he could really see was the morning sun, rising from its own slumber.
The room was sparsely furnished, and Matt could care less. This room was cool, but not cold. His hands ghosted along the railing that kept people from getting too close to the deadly fall off of the mountain, and he watched as the sun rose. Reddish orange colors he had previously seen faded to gray, as the sun became more of a yellow tinge.
"Hi, Matt." A voice startled him from behind, at the entry way.
"Wha- Ty?" Matt said as he realized who it was.
"Yeah, umm... I just wanted to bring you back here to my place for you to rest." Ty admitted, looking down at the floor.
"I couldn't just leave you there to cry your heart out." Ty said in a softer, more sympathetic tone.
"Ty, thank you for bringing me back here. Thanks for the clothes, and the shoes, and the warm bath." Matt said, walking over to Ty and putting his hand on his shoulder.
"I'm not mad at you, buddy. But how long was I asleep?" Matt asked, concerned for his own sake.
"Just the night." Ty said as he looked at Matt apologetically.
"Wow. You've taken care of me for that long. You're a true friend, Ty. I have another question. Why do you live on a mountain?" Matt said, generally curious.
"Well, my father is a government worker, so we get special things. I didn't want to tell anyone because I thought they'd use me." Ty admitted as he looked at Matt with a sad smile.
"That's awesome, Ty. But I've gotta go. There's no way I could burden you any longer." Matt said as he began walking towards the door.
"Matt, wait. Why don't you stay for one more day, and have lunch and dinner with us?" Ty said in an inviting tone.
"Are you sure it won't bother anyone?" Matt asked with a hopeful expression.
" I am one hundred percent sure that no one will care if you stay one more day, Matt. My mom is away for a while and my dad stays at his work camp." Ty said, smiling.
"Okay, first things first, we need to get you more than one outfit." Ty said, dragging Matt off to different rooms.
The day just kind of went by like that for Matt. Nothing really happened, him and Ty got him some new clothes and a backpack to carry all his stuff in. They had sandwiches for lunch, and then they watched some Netflix in Ty's room.
At about seven o'clock, Ty led Matt to a different glass walled room, and he walked over to the blinds that covered this glass.
"Even though I can't see the color yet, I still enjoy the sunsets." Ty said as he lifted the blinds and revealed the ball of sun dipping low on the horizon.
Matt could feel it. He could see the color orange again, and his shades were coming back. He could see up to almost a yellow, but not quite. Matt smiled as the sun sank below the horizon. He would spend the night here, and then leave them after breakfast.
