I lay sprawled out across the worn sofa that was positioned in the middle of the main room whilst Caspar and Sam sat on stools, staring intently at the final video.
“All looks good then!” Sam grinned, turning round to me.
Caspar was still concentrating hard on the video, dragging the time back to see my turn of the game.
“Look who’s eyeing up Grace in this one, eh,” He winked at me, urging me to the screen.
I watched closely as Caspar resumed the video and moved to the side for me to see. The boy who had been my victim didn’t take his eyes off of me, and the feeling appeared to be mutual.
“Aw Grace is blushing, someone’s got a crush!”
I felt my cheeks burn as I playfully pushed Caspar, and he toppled over onto the floor, taking me with him. I was on top of him, holding his hands to the floor as he begged for mercy. Just as I lessened my grip he used this as an advantage, reversing the positions and laying me on the floor. I knew what was coming next. He delicately moved his long fingers to under my neck and began to tickle as my breathing became faster and harder.
“Caspar stop!” I pleaded, grasping his hair in an attempt to get him and his tickling hands away from me.
“SAM?” I screamed, begging him to help me. He laughed and shook his black hair from his face, untangling Caspar’s arms from my own and heaving him up.
Ten minutes or so passed and Sam left, leaving Caspar and I to our own devices. After a long wait the video posted to YouTube, and to my dismay he had added an annotation to the part involving me saying ‘Thumbs up for Grace and her new boyfriend ;).’ Despite my protests he refused to take it down, so I just admitted defeat and returned to my bedroom. At some point along the line I must have shut my eyes, because hours passed until I felt a soft nudge on my shoulders.
“Grace, grace? Wake up, I made us dinner,” Caspar whispered quietly, gently waking me up.
I sat eating the pasta bows infront of me, somewhat unlady like while Caspar had his laptop to the side, skyping his mum. It was a usual routine for a Wednesday, and I knew how much Caspar missed his family in South Africa.
“Hi Grace love, how are you?” Emily asked me in a crackled voice.
I spoke to Caspar’s mum for a while until she had to go, waving a quick goodbye to the two of us while Theodora quickly said hello before we hung up. I proceeded to hand wash the two empty plates while he prepared for drying them, taking on the roles we did every night, it was a routine we weren’t planning on breaking. Eventually everything had been cleared away and I gave Caspar a tight hug goodnight before retiring to my room.
As I lay on my bed trying to fall back asleep my mind flickered back to the day. I hadn’t had much time to look at the boy, my eyes focused mainly on the floor in embarrassment but it did make me think whether at any time I would like to find somebody. Caspar and I were just friends, as much as people questioned our relationship he was just my best friend, no boy could change that. I wasn’t planning on moving out of our shared apartment anytime soon either, if Caspar ever moved back to his country then Zoe had already offered me a room at her house. She was the reason I was such good friends with Caspar, we used to work together at Superdrug and when she started vlogging and doing YouTube videos, she introduced me to the crew and from then Caspar and I became inseparable.
Finally my mind became tired of thinking and let me fall asleep in peace while I drifted off into a world of my own.
